BANYA Nishishinjukusumitomobiruten

My Average rating is a little low for this restaurant, I really wanted to give it a Good rating, but to my mind, it doesn't rank in the Very Good to Excellent ranking. I went here with a colleague and the 48th floor setting is pretty awesome at night. But we came primarily for the food and we had ch...osen the sukiyaki set in advance. The sashimi and tempura in the set were good, the beef in the sukiyaki itself was, to our tastes, too fatty - fat that didn't render during cooking. I appreciate that this is a personal preference and others might revel in the high levels of fat in the meat. Service was good but did seem a little rushed - we had two hours to be in and out and I think that a course set like we had requires at least another half hour to enjoy. A good place to visit if you like sukiyaki or shabu shabu, but advise booking an extra half hour of time.

Close to the Hyatt Regency Shinjuku. Wonderful views from the 48th floor. Everything outstanding from the interior atmosphere to make you feel you are in a Japanese village not a skyscraper, the appearance of Japanese style seating with a comfortable well for your legs, enthusiastic staff and deli...cious food. It took several minutes waiting for staff when we realized the buzzer on table. Started with the sake, warm with beer and water for a chaser. My mouth is watering remembering seafood pizza, other appetizers and cook it yourself pork entrée for our table. Fun atmosphere with various groups celebrating. Perfect night out to celebrate our time in Japan. Great time with staff for photos and gift before leaving.

Absolutely delicious Shabu Shabu and overall experience at Banya! We had a table on a rainy wet evening in Tokyo and we almost considered not going due to the weather, but wow I'm happy we went! Although it bills itself as a shabu shabu restaurant, all the other elements of our course were also fant...astic. The first item we had were some traditional Japanese fish cakes and eggs which were a nice primer for what was to come. The sashimi that followed was a veritable greatest hits of everyone's favourite sashimi items, and we completely demolished this plate. The Shabu Shabu was of course the main course, and we could have kept eating the delicious meat and vegetables forever if we had that option! We were also lucky enought to sample their tempura praws and fish sake which I'd highly recommend too. The mid meal salad was also a great palette cleanser, and the udon to finish using the shabu shabu broth was a great way to close the meal. The view overlooking Shinjuku from the 49th floor location is also something to behold, and right as we thought our night was over, the restaurant surprised us by bringing out a special gift presented by a man dressed in full-traditional samurai suit! Highly recommend for groups, and I would definitely go again.

Had a great experience at this awesome shabu-shabu restaurant. The food was great!! The pork was incredible, super fresh, very soft. We had a serving of a sashimi platter which was amazing, the fish almost melted in your mouth, along with a well dressed bean salad, golden brown deep fried fish, our ...meal was finished off with udon noodles cooked in the shabu-shabu broth. Our table had English instructions on how to cook the meat in the soup, the staff were friendly and the view was ok. It could have been better but it was quite a cloudy night. None the less, a great experience!!
