Minokichi Tobuikebukuroten

When I went to Tokyo, a friend of mine came to see me all the way from Shikoku Island. She wanted to take me out to Minokichi Kyoto-style Japanese restaurant, where she used to go for special occasions when she was working in Tokyo many years before. As we seated at a table in the far corner of th...e restaurant, I noticed that the waitress always served me first. So I asked my friend why. Her answer was that I was in the ‘kamiza’ (=seat of honour against ‘tokonoma’). As a part of the course of the dishes she ordered for us, there was a choice of beef or fish. I chose fish which was steamed with a piece of broccoli. To my surprise, it had a fishy smell with a discoloured broccoli. I was very disappointed.
