Dante

Soul place. There are some places in the world that you wish are close to your home to be able to be there everytime you wish. Such as is Dante❤️. Delucious high quality food prepared with heart and experience; every bite is simply great. The staff is so nice, helpful and friendly that you forgot ...quickly that you are eating there for the first time. Dante is a great place to be!

We stumbled upon this little gem as we were out for a walkabout near our hotel in Akasaka. It is down below street level so we could not look inside and it did feel like a bit of a gamble. However, as soon as we entered, we were greeted warmly by a delightful, elderly woman, and then a young man wit...h excellent English was able to find room for us even though we had no reservation. The rest of the night was pure magic. Our chef was young, but had trained for a number of years and was highly skilled. He also spoke English quite well and was able to help us with the menu and with suggestions on which sauces to use for the different parts of our meal. Our initial impulse was to order à la carte, but something told us that ordering the fixed price Dante meal was a good call, and indeed, every course was better than the last right through to delicious vanilla ice cream. The total meal was not inexpensive, however, given the variety, quality and quantity of the food, the enjoyable atmosphere, the entertainment of watching the chef up close, we felt that it was a reasonable value for money. As we were preparing to leave, we saw a photograph of Michael Jackson near the entrance, posing with some of the staff from quite a number of years ago. We figured that if it was good enough for the King of Pop, it was good enough for us.!!

This speakeasy type joint in the basement cavern of a corner serves incredibly well prepared Tappenyaki, with A5 beef and excellent seafood prepared right i9n front of you by a very friendly and meticulous chef. (took extraordinary care to align the grilled onions, for instance.) Very reasonably pr...iced, hostess was extremely friendly, helped us get a taxi. In a very busy part of old town.

We were recommended this restaurant by a lady who had lived in the area for 10 years. It is located below the road which gives it a special atmosphere. There are photos on the wall of famous people (with the host) and the whole space has a retro feel about it. The staff are lovely and very attentiv...e, and the host is quite a character. The food however talks to a bygone era. It is basic (but tasty) teppanyaki with the headline act an exceptional A5 grade (hope I have got that correct) piece of steak which while initially lovely, was just too rich to finish. Ultimately, the value was ok and although some people love this kind of experience, I am not sure its my favourite.

You would not find it as it is one of the restaurants underground. Run by the owner with very friendly staff and great food / experience
