“Different service if you are a tourist or foreigner. Beware.”
One of the most disappointing dining experiences on our trip to Japan. Noticed to recent post-pandemic reviews but their service towards tourists or foreigners has changed drastically. 5000 yen for a tempura set of around 9 pieces. We were seated at the counter and ordered a set each. Five minute...s later a salarymen showed up ordered the same set and this is where the excitement of watching the chef fry it right in front of you disappeared. The salarymen received his pieces one by one piping hot and crunchy. However we were served in two batches, five at a time. Which led to a soggy and oily tempura experience. The service was also cold and rushed which was different from other experiences in our trip. 10-12 minute walk from Ueno park was definitely not worth it for overpriced and ruined tempura. Not sure why they decide to treat tourists so differently and we were being respectful too. We have had better tempura experiences before. Although located in Nihombashi, we recommend Tenichi in the Takashimaya Department Store for a great counter tempura dining experience. Cheaper, crunchier and overall much friendlier too.

“Quality tempura at affordable prices ”
Dropped in for a late lunch on Sunday. Wife had the Jo Tendon, a bowl of rice topped with a delectable selection of tempura. I selected the Tempura Tei shoku. This came with pickles, rice, chawan mushi and a fine collection of tempura. Both meals were great. The restaurant too a lot of precautio...ns related to the Covid 19 virus. Tables and chairs were sprayed and wiped after each sitting.

“Family run tempura restaurant full of flavors”
Had lunch at this lovely tempura restaurant with the owner chef at the bar cooking the whole lunch set. Friendly place minutes from metro station. Mostly Japanese customers showing its pedigree. Friendly owner is local ueno eager to chat to you about the local area with his better than expected Engl...ish. Great place to eat Tempura and support the local culinary culture.

“Amazing tempura”
It’s great restaurant with traditions. It is one of the best tempuras in Ueno and this part of Tokyo.

“Excellent tempura for a really decent price ”
A real family restaurant, as the current chef is the 3rd generation to run the business. A very good sushi as they really pay attention to the outsourcing of the Products. Go for the largest menu, you won t be disappointed.
