“Love Hokkaido food!”

It was my first time visiting Sushiyama, and after today, I don’t think I can go back to Sushiro anymore. This restaurant features ingredients from Hokkaido, where you can enjoy Hokkaido-sourced seafood, milk, and sake. As for the sushi, I could tell how fresh the sashimi was from the very first bi...te, even with my amateur palate. The three small side dishes were also savory and flavorful, which I think makes them perfect to enjoy with drinks. What I loved the most was their melon milk. It’s made with red-fleshed melon mixed with milk, and of course, everything is from Hokkaido. It was sweet and creamy. They also offer an alcoholic version, so both adults and kids can enjoy it. For people who like sour flavors, the berry milk would be a great choice. It contains haskap, a sour berry that can only be found in Hokkaido. The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. There were many tourists and businesspeople, but I’d say it’s also perfect for family gatherings. I will definitely bring my mom here next time!

“High-quality sushi with helpful and friendly staff”

Excellent experience at SUSHI-YAMA Shinjuku! I got the 6000 yen course, which I highly recommend. It was very filling—I wasn’t hungry at all by the end. The sushi were extremely fresh and delicious, and I enjoyed every single piece. The staff takes time to explain how to properly enjoy each sushi (f...or example, with or without soy sauce), which made the experience even better. They also speak a bit of English, which is perfect for foreigners. Special mention to the Red Meat Melon Sour which is great if you like sweet, melon-flavored drinks. I would definitely come back!

“Great food with a great atmosphere!”

I recently visited this restaurant with a group of friends and had a really great experience. We had the "Unkai" course, and it’s a solid choice if you're looking for quality food in Shinjuku that doesn't feel overly formal. The meal was incredibly well-balanced with a lot of variety beyond just th...e fish. Some of the highlights for me were the crab meat custard, which was smooth and flavorful, and the dashi soup-wrapped egg that was perfectly seasoned. As for the sushi itself, there was a great range of pieces that were all fresh and well-prepared. It felt like a very complete meal where every dish had a purpose, and I left feeling perfectly satisfied. The atmosphere is another big plus. It’s a stylish space that feels modern, yet the vibe is still warm enough that you can actually relax and enjoy your conversation. It’s a great spot all around—nice enough for a special occasion, and casual enough for a regular night out. If you’re in the area and want a meal that hits that sweet spot of great service and well-rounded food, I’d definitely recommend giving this place a look!

“Nice food and Hokkaido local sake”

I had the pleasure of enjoying their “Sushi Ukai” course. The course begins with a beautifully smooth chawanmushi, rich yet delicate, accented with seafood that adds both texture and depth of flavor. Each element feels intentional and calming, setting the tone for the meal. One of the highlights of... the course is the fish, featuring crisp skin and juicy flesh, demonstrating precise heat control and craftsmanship. The tempura course provides a wonderful contrast, with an airy, light batter that stays crisp while highlighting the natural sweetness of shrimp and seasonal vegetables. Also they have lots Hokkaido beer and sake which is amazing. Highly recommended.

“Unkai Course.”

This time I ordered the Unkai Course. Since I don’t drink alcohol, I chose the Haskap & Berry Milk as my drink. At first glance, it looked incredibly cute and I instantly loved it. The balance of sweet and sour was just right, and when combined with milk, it became very smooth and refreshing — not t...oo heavy at all. The first dish, chawanmushi, really impressed me. The egg was extremely soft and silky, and it contained hokke (Atka mackerel), which added a natural sweetness. It was honestly the best chawanmushi I’ve had since coming to Japan. The fourth dish, a rolled omelet, was also delicious. Even though it’s a simple dish that you can find almost anywhere, this one was very satisfying and comforting. The saikyo-yaki (miso-marinated grilled fish) was grilled to perfection, bringing out the natural sweetness of the fish. Overall, every fish dish was excellent, but my favorites were the saikyo-yaki and the lightly seared chutoro nigiri. The dessert, warabi mochi, was also very memorable and a perfect way to end the meal.
