Sakurai

This restaurant is situated just a little further from the busy shopping area near the train stations. We went on a Sunday and we just walked-in. The restaurant, though occupying two levels, is not big and quite full. We were lucky to be seated right away without a reservation. I ordered the 'w...estern food course' for ¥4,000. It included a selection of all the food I wanted to try: the cabbage roll, the hamburger steak and the omelette rice. Everything was great and the omelette rice was soooooo good - it's in the perfect shape, egg was very smooth inside, and it came with a sauce that was perfect to go with the egg and the fried rice. Even the appetizers and dessert were impeccable. We also ordered the beef stew - both the beef filet steak and beef tongue. The stewed meat were very tender. We enjoyed our lunch very much. Must go if you are in the area!

I tried out this restaurant which has some sort of Michelan recognition - not an official star. Westerners might not appreciate the food if they do not know what the Japanese rave about in a restaurant. Ordinarily for me rice wrapped in a layer of egg ( their take on a Japanese omelette) and serve...d with home made ketchup, would not be exciting, but the Mrs ordered it and said it was decent enough. I had the chicken teriyaki served on rice which came with a small portion of Japanese pickles and miso soup. The miso soup was top notch but the rest of the meal was very average.
