“Tasty Teppanyaki for Two”
My husband and I were looking for a sushi bar within walking distance of the Hilton Tokyo, when we stumbled upon this Teppanyaki restaurant. As luck would have it, we got the last two seats for lunch. The Wagyu beef—served with crispy garlic, wasabi and black pepper—melted in your mouth. Umai!

“Perfect anniversary dinner ”
It was our 10th anniversary and we stayed at Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo. Our dinner at the hotel restaurant “Teppan Yaki YAMANAMI” was the highlight of our entire trip. Usually we do not dine at the hotel that we stay unless we feel that the hotel is of a suitable quality. We decided to dine at Te...ppanyaki Yamanami of Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo because this hotel strikes us as a hotel which pursues perfection in being just right (or spot on) in every detail. The waiters of Teppanyaki Yamanami are professional and speak good English. The chef cooked the food beautifully. In particular, the abalone was done just “spot on”. A right balance between soft and crispy in texture for this difficult expensive ingredient. The Kobe and Hilda sirloin are done just right again. The two breeds of Japanese beef have very different characters but they are done just right again in terms of being pink inside and slightly cameralised outside. The beef stayed juicy. Pairing the beef with the Japanese vinegar, Japanese soy sauce and rock salt gave the expensive meat sufficient variety. We could not finish our vine so the waiters help us to pack the wine and two wine glasses were waiting for us in our room! We were invited to the coffee table area for desert and coffee. It gave us yet another level of variety and enjoyment. It is one of our best fine dining experience ever and certainly the best one in Japan so far.

“Steak will never be the same again!”
I couldn’t end my Tokyo trip without trying Kobe beef. I managed to get a seat at Yamanami which is one of the restaurants in the Keio Plaza Hotel. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! I went for the Kobe meal called Tsubaki which included an appetiser, grilled vegetables, fish of the day, either Kobe or Hida bee...f (I went for the former), garlic rice, miso soup, pickles, desert and coffee. All for £135. Now that sounds like a lot, but if you love food and want a food experience, then this is one of the best lunches you’ll have.... ever! My chef started explaining the produce and then began the show. While this was Teppan-yaki don’t expect the over the top show of some places! This is a five star hotel and the restaurant reflects that. Chef was a consummate pro but very friendly and made me feel so welcome. In fact all the staff were amazing and put up with my terrible Japanese efforts. I’ll let the pictures speak for the quality of this meal. The starter of raw fish was amazing, as was the fish course. The garlic rice was out of this world - possible the most expensive rice in the world as it had Kobe beef fat in it. But the star was the Kobe beef itself. Melt in your mouth. So much flavour and stuck in my memory over six weeks later. So if you’re going to Japan for the first time like me, please try good quality Kobe beef (A4) and if you need a quality experience then you can’t go wrong with Yamanami.

“Superb Tepanyaki”
An excellent restaurant for Tepanyaki is located on the seventh floor of Keyo Plaza Hotel. The chef was remarkable, the service and the food were superb. Although they look small, the portions are quite sufficient, and the lunch price is reasonable.
