“Very Good indeed”
This is a first class restaurant that offers very specialist Japanese cuisine. You have to understand the subtle flavors and delicate elegance of Japanese food to fully appreciate the skill involved with what is served here. This is some of the finest Japanese food you will experience, but do not e...xpect it to be like a western restaurant, it is not that.

“Excellent food”
This restaurant is good for couples or work colleagues who prefer a quiet ambience. Mr. Hishinuma, the owner, is the only chef there, so it may take a little bit time between dishes. We tried the blowfish courses; sashimi, frites, hot pot, porridge. You have to take time and appreciate the flavor of... the fish in the sashimi style. Very clean in palette, and crispy texture. But, when you try the fish deep-fried, you will enjoy the yammy fish fat. Melting in your mouth. Service is decent. This restaurant has been awarded with a Michelin Star over the years. Excellent food, reasonable price, very calm ambience. It is not difficult to book a table, surprisingly. The wine list is pretty good. I do not know who has created the list, but his passion is well reflected. He knows wine so that it goes well with food. 5,000 yen for corkage.

“Our worst experience in Tokyo...”
We were looking to test several michelin restaurants and we got amazing experience our two first nights in Toyko. The booking to Hishinuma was made by our concierge and we arrived there for last service at 9:30pm. [Welcome] As soon as we arrived at the entrance of the restaurant we could barely sai...d "Konishiwa" that the waitress pointed at a room on the right of the entrance. We did not have the chance to see the restaurant that we were sitting in a closed, 2.5mx3.5m room, that looked like a meeting room (see picture). [Service] The waitress showed us the menu and the tree different course-menu options ranging from 12.000¥ to 17.000¥. Since there was no description whatsoever of the menu we asked what the difference was but after 10mn of trying to get what the actual menu were; we asked what was she recommending. We ended up following her advice for the 15.000¥ menu. I asked for recommendation for wine/sake to go with the menu but no answer were given so we went for sparkling water.. (That was mainly due to language barrier so can be disregarded) [Food] the most important! We were very deceived but the non-tasting dishes we were presented but the meat that was spectacular! (Unfortunately we were served one portion for two...) [Desert] Finally, we were presented with the dessert that was... An old melon! Very disappointing, knowing it was not even fresh, for a michelin restaurant. After 1.30hrs we ended paying 36.800¥ for two and a bad souvenir..

“A very fine meal, not a single mistake, a little conservative”
Oddly we were the only custormers on a July saturday evening. We had ordered the 15000 omakase course. Everything fine and subtle. A little redundancy with suzuki sea bass showing up as sashimi and yakisakana, perhaps a bit too cooked, but this is not uncommon. the meat was from Yamagata and perfec...t. a HUGE wine list with some bargain for those with a lot to spend. Only four saké but they were good of course; try them all. it has one star now. Chef very friendly and they do speak a little English. Dessert was a perfect melon, nothing else. If in Roppongi, why not? In the basement...

“Shame on them!”
In the business and responsible for Michelin starred restaurants in the US and the UK, I was truly excited to go to a 2 Michelin star restaurant in Tokyo. I went there for lunch, was the only guest, there was nobody to host me, I got a 5 course menu served in 45 minutes when I notified the server to... slow down. 2 dishes came out right out from the fridge so were way too cold. It was overall flavorful but I felt so rushed and unwelcome. I had much better experiences in basic eateries for much less money and better service. I hope they treat their dinner guests with more consideration.
