STEAK HOUSE RIB ROOM

We stayed at the Otani. And the night we ate at the Rib Room it was raining like you cannot believe. So we wanted to dine at a restaurant inside the Otani to avoid the rain. Have you ever done the currency translation and screwed up? On this one I did. I missplaced a decimal on it. Bottom line... it was FAR more costly than what I thought it would cost. That was MY problem and I take ownership for it. But the meal we got, while good, was FAR out of line with the cost one would reasonably expect. I screwed up. But this turned out to be the second most expensive meal for two I have ever gotten. The first most was the Jules Verne Restaurant in the Eiffel Tower. But the difference between the two was like night and day. I would go back to the Jules Verne in a New York heartbeat. The Rib Room. Sorry. NO. My wife had a French Onion Soup Au Gratin. I had a 7 ounce Kobe Steak and a buffet dinner salad (which I made, NOT done by the wait staff). I asked the Wine Steward for wine suggestions. He didn't have a clue. You would think that a Wine Steward would have some idea as to what to suggest to pair with your meal in a restauraunt. To repeat, this one did not have a clue. Being from California and loving Chardonnay, I saw one I recognized and ordered it. It was good but very average as far as Chardonnays go. And the "service" was anything but exceptional. So a French Onion Soup Au Gratin, a Kobe 7 oz steak, a buffet serve yourself salad, and a bottle of "meets minimum Chardonnary" ... how much? $590 US dollars. OUTRAGEOUS. But I only found out about it after I got back home. Did I screw up on the currency conversion. Absolutely. But it was still far out of line. My suggestion: DO NOT GOT THERE. The food was good, not great, but far out of line. My hope is that the restaurant reads this review and substantiates their pricing.

The salad bar was OK, simple, not worth its price. But I ordered a Kobe beef. Only 8 mm, oversalted with sodium glutamate (tenderizing salt). Awful. Medium to rare as ordered, but awful. And astronomic cost of 44.000 yen, NOK 3.400, GBP 300. € 365. Not worth its price. Stay off!! This place should r...econsider its worth!!!

Excellent Kobe steak. The salad bar was not up to par for the price of the meal. It was more of an insult and should be eliminated.

I ate dinner here last week while staying at the new otani hotel on a business trip. My colleague enjoyed her stake dinner. I don't like steak so ordered a salad and baked potato. My baked potato was good but small. It costs about $9 U.S. Dollars.

Love this steak place. We had an A5 Super Quality Japanese Tenderloin. 150grams is big enough for 1 person. Ordered garlic rice with it too. There is an option for just plain rice, which I think is better, to focus more on the taste of the steak.
