“Outstanding Basque French restaurant”

Reviewed 07/Nov/2018

If you want to eat basque pork dishes in Tokyo, this is highly recommended. It is a small shop, cuisine, service, atmosphere, customer base, and madam's service are the best. Pork dishes are excellent, also fish soup and gateau basque too. 豚肉料理が美味しいのは勿論ですが魚のスープとガトー・バスクは欠かせません。お店の雰囲気と客層、マダムのサービスが食事を...楽しいものにしてくれます。

“La-la-la-la-Lauburu!”

We love to eat and we love pork. But we have never been to a restaurant that elevated the heretofore lowly pork to such gastronomic delight. The restaurant is at the end of a lonely alley; the interiors is nothing to rave about (but very comfy and cozy); the menu manageable and the wine list eclec...tic. But the food, ah, the food! You know how we say we like hearty food, using "hearty" as a satisfying replacement for gourmet and fine? The dishes at Lauburu were all the above, and some. Good Japanese food in Tokyo is a no-brainer. To find a restaurant like Lauburu in Tokyo is, well, a find!

“MInd-blowingly good!”

We lived in Tokyo for 4 years and felt really lucky to have this restaurant as our favorite. The dishes are rich and masculine, with a focus on pork. The restaurant has a Michelin star. Never had anything I didn't like here and the wines are also reasonably-priced and good. If you get a chance tr...y the galette. Make sure to put the address into your phone or print out a map, as it is in a small alley in Aoyama, around the corner from the Blue Note and a little hard to find. Will make a point to go every time I return to Tokyo. Enjoy!

“Bistro-brasserie”

It's supposed to be a Michelin one-star restaurant but in reality you mustn't expect such a thing. True, it's not their fault but Michelin's but if you go there with such expectation, you never fail to get disappointed. We did actually. It's supposed to be a Bask culinary place but once again it's ...not so in actuality. It's just a standard biistro-brasserie-cafe kind of place serving very standard French food, nothing sophisticated or elaborated. So if you forget every bit of that prior image, it's an acceptable brasserie with ordinary food and service. I might be a wee bit harsh because nothing is their fault but Michelin's. I wouldn't go there twice personally, though.

“amazing little restaurant at end of an alley way”

After more than a week in Tokyo,I was ready to take a break from Japanese food and my husband found this restaurant near our hotel. Not easy to find since it does not face a street but worth every minute spent looking for it. The business facing the street says "Catorce",some kind of clothing store ...so just walk to the end and you have arrieved at one of the most charming little restaurants ever((25 seats), I ordered grilled porc-juicy,tender and matched with the best grilled vegetables I have ever tasted. My husband had the cassulet also excellent. Shared a salad with the lightest dressing ,crisp bread and melting goat cheese. The kitchen is partially opened to views and it looked liked a choreograph dance between the chefs. Also several french-speaking custumers where there and looked like they knew the chef well. Overall a wonderful surprise in Tokyo-highly recommended. Make sure to phone ahead on the weekend.
