Sushi Aoi

The chef did a great job with the meal course tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed the artistically put-together meal course and it was a nice treat for my mother. Lots of local and no tourist at all. The head chef is quite friendly with not just the customers but also his staff, a nice change compared to ...what I experienced at sukiyabashi jiro. Some of my most highlights of the course include kinmedai, buri, bafun uni, uni, and otoro. The kinmedai was ever-so-slightly grilled just on the skin to get the hint of the aroma out, which perfectly complimented the flavor of the white fish. The buri was extremely tender with a proper amount of aging. The bafun uni had a buttery texture, with a sweet flavor, the uni was the best presented dish, with the nicely vinegared rice, layered by the ikura and caviar, east and west fish eggs, then topped with gold leaves. It was a total explosion of flavors. And finally, otoro doesn't need much description to any sushi lovers, this cut was as good as it gets. Where the meal course could use some improvement would be the waiter could be more attentive. My tea cup sat empty numerous times and I had to ask for the refill more often than not. I was also surprised that although we ordered the highest level omakase course, otoro was not a part of it and I had to a la carte that piece of sushi. All in all the meal was fantastic and I would recommend a visit. It is at a price point that is still not ridiculous and with lots of local visiting.
