Teppambeibi Shinjukuhigashiguchi

This was one of the best meals I had in Japan. I've never had Okkon before. I just ordered the classic and added cheese. My husband topped it with avocado and an egg. It was excellent. The only drawback is they allow smoking. As we were finishing people started smoking at the next table. If this wo...uld have been while we were eating dinner I would have left. It is a small restaurant and the smoke was getting to us.

I had high hopes for this restaurant as advertised as accommodating gluten allergy. I realize now that it makes that claim because overall it just markets to tourists. There is nothing special about the food, we could barely understand our waiter who was upselling everything "all you can drink" bu...t barely brought any food. This was the worst meal of our trip to Tokyo. The options offered were a little weird and they basically ended up giving us a bunch of friend cheese as an alternative to the things we didn't want. Look at the menu ahead of time, because its confusing and no one really got a lot of food in th end.

Ate here last night with friends and honestly left pretty disappointed. Service was the biggest issue. Our waiter was rude, had zero spatial awareness, and repeatedly leaned over my body and drink for long stretches while talking. It was uncomfortable and unprofessional. We came for the full experie...nce but were seated on the floor while empty bar seats sat “reserved” the entire time. From the moment we sat down, everything felt rushed — they pushed a last-call food order immediately, gave us barely any time to decide, and seemed focused on turning the table as fast as possible. I ordered the wagyu steak (~¥80,000) and it was small, very fatty, and nowhere near worth the price. Overall the food felt average and massively overpriced for what it was. When my friend asked for a to-go box, they initially refused. After pushing back, they eventually agreed — but only after saying they would if we didn’t leave a bad review. That alone says a lot. With so many incredible food options around, I’m shocked this place is rated so highly. I wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend it if you have other choices.
