Kantonryori Ryutemmon

We had prearranged private room with gourmet 7 course lunch for 7 guests for special occasion. ¥14,000 per person! On arrival it took staff and managers 5 attempts to find it! Then they could not find prearranged menu, came out with old menu. Took 15 more minutes to find correct! At last in private ...room. For 15 min no one comes to take drink orders! Had to go out 3 times to get service! Slowly apologies come. Then food courses come. 4 out of seven, very poor quality, served mostly COLD! Peking duck, was a joke! 1 roll of dough with 1 piece of skin! No presentation of 1/2 or full duck at table, even if prepared outside. We asked in perfect Japanese, for more spring onion and less cucumber! Got the opposite. All was cold. The Wagyu beef portion was a ridiculous 25 gram p/p! Several portions cooked well done. All also all lukewarm. The lobster was good, but zero taste. Fried rice with crabmeat was served very cold. Only good dish was vegetable and desert. I think they totally lost cooking and presentation skills last 3 years! Only serving Japanese guests who have no idea what Cantonese Cousine is supposed to be! We lived 20 years in Hong Kong! Ryutenmon, better don’t waste your money! Manager at end apologized and did not charge for drinks!

This Chinese restaurant has a Japanese chef and is a disappoint over the entire line. It has a very good reputation in my opinion completely undeserved. When we entered , there was no one at the reception, no desk even, we had to walk in the dining room to get attention. Nobody in the restaurant ...as they admit, speaks English, Mandarin or Cantonese. The food was cold, prepared by a cook but not a chef. The dumplings tasteless and the pastry to thick. Service late, by untrained staff. In brief, a disappointment. We decided to leave my wife and I before it could get worse, but even the room charge system was broken. Credit where is due, the hotel, after a lot of prodding, did return most of the charges to me.

Every dish did not disappoint. While the decor looks a bit tired and dark, the service and food really uplifted our mood. The restaurant is also very child friendly without sacrificing refinement. We ordered the a random array of dishes. The tan tan mian was delicious, different from any type of ...dan dan mian we've had - noodles are thinner like won ton noodles, but the sesame/peanut sauce had a small kick, and was so flavorful without being too heavy. Claypot tofu included delicious dou hua style tofu which was an unexpected but tasty surprise. The fried rice was better than some places in Hong Kong which I was shocked about, and pork gua bao as so tender and braised to perfection. I wanted to eat more but I was already stuffed. It is pricy, but its worth it.

We had a business summit in Westin this week. It’s not easy to entertain a group for than 40 people but Westin did it flawlessly. Had a few lunches at Ryutenmon, they prepared set meals that got on the tables quickly. I would call them fusion Chinese but still tasted very good! The dessert? Excellen...t!
