ICHIRAN Shibuya

We found this 24 Hour Ramen joint. It was like the "White Castle" of Tokyo as people started streaming in around 2am. Most interesting as we sat down in divided sections, filled out a menu form, served from behind a bamboo blind that was raised to serve us, then closed. I really appreciated the very... cold water that was on the tap at EVERY seat! We ran into, and ate at, the same restaurant in a few cities as we toured "The Golden Route". They all had different hours. The one in Shibuya was the only 24 hour one we found.

No food is worth such a long wait. And it's so misleading. You wait in a long queue on the street, and there is a restaurant employee at the entrance who lets a few people inside every now and then, so the queue moves a little, but then you realise that this "entrance" and his smile and big welcomin...g gestures are just the beginning of a new line inside, behind the courtain. All those people who have been "let inside" long before you are in fact packed close together and trapped in a new queue down several flights of stairs. No, thank you.

Love this ramen place!! It is quirky, never saw anything quite like it before. You order electronically before being seated in individual cubicles. In front of you is a half curtain so you never come face to face with any person. Table side you have a paper to customize your ramen. So fun and unique.... Plus you can order extra noodles FREE.

Great tasting noodles in a Japanese booth restaurant, it was really interesting to experience what I had only seen on TV (every seat in their own booth, mark the ticket and you get served through a hatch). The food was fantastic, which is the most important thing. Queueing is a given, seeing as th...is restaurant chain is really famous. We started waiting at 4:40pm and got to sit down at about 5:20pm - on a previous day at 6pm the wait was over 2 hours. You queue along the pavement and down the stairs (at our time the queue was only at the very bottom of the stairs so it was really short), and when you get into the restaurant you're still queueing but at least you get air-con and a form to tick your choice of noodles. You then pay and get given printed tickets stating the food you ordered, which you give to the hatch when you sit down (we were 3 but agreed to split into 2 seats together and 1 alone for a shorter wait). I would recommend going out of a normal meal time to have a shorter wait, like I did. There are only about 24 seats so that's why the wait is so long.

This place has some of my favorite ramen. The Shibuya location gets really crowded but you can get your name on the list and go walk around until it's your turn. When you go in you order and pay at a screen and then get seated at a small semi-private dinning booth. We are a family of three and they ...seat you together (next to each other). Each booth has its own water dispenser so you can serve yourself. When you sit down you place your order form on the table in your booth and the server on the other side of a roll up screen lifts the screen and takes it. A short time later your bowl of ramen, and any drink you ordered, shows up. And it is delicious.
