Kitano gourmet-tei

When in Hokkaido, you need to try to get as much of their seafood as possible. Its possibly the freshest in Japan. I had read about Kitano Gurume and the area around it as a better alternative to Nijo Market. Although not in the main area of Sapporo, Kitano Gurume offers a free shuttle from many ...hotels in Sapporo. While my hotel was not on their list, the hotel next to it was. I was able to book the shuttle for our group of 6 from the website easily. I received confirmation the next day. I would suggest booking the shuttle a couple of days before you plan to visit. On the day of the booking, we were picked up right on time in a nice bus. We were the only group they picked up so it was very spacious. After confirming who we were, they also asked us when we wanted to return. I gave myself 3 hours to shop and eat there which was plenty of time. When we arrived, it was pretty chaotic as there were lots of other customers. We headed to the restaurant and got a table. When we informed the wait staff that we wanted a live hairy crab, they took us outside to the main area where we could pick out the crab that we want. The price can be confusing so do ask if you do not see the price. Along with a hairy crab, we also got some scallops and a box of sea urchin. We also ordered other items from the menu. The sea urchin showed up first and it was just placed in a bowl. While it looked plain, it was out of the world. Both sweet and creamy with a hint of the sea. A must eat if you are in Sapporo. The scallops were just steamed as was the hairy crab. They had prepared the crab by slicing it and ensuring that you don't need a lot of tools to extract the meat. It was very sweet and definitely one of my favorite crab to have in Japan. The restaurant also had a grill where they were grilling conch, salted fish, etc. They also had sushi and we ordered some toro. It was all very fresh and delicious. Price-wise, I don't think its cheaper than what you can get at Nijo Market. However, the selection was much better. After eating, you can walk around the other stalls and continue to eat more seafood if you are hungry. The shuttle back to our hotel was also on time. Kitano Gurume has a good and smooth operation. I would definitely recommend giving them a try if you are looking for a wide range of fresh seafood.

Really good seafood this restaurant inside a seafood market. We had a crab bowl and a mixed seafood bowl, and they were both delicious and plentiful. If you are in the area, this is a can't-miss meal. Recommended!

Not very many people at 10 am on a Tuesday. Got crab miso soup coupons after getting out of taxi. Air conditioned dining room. The miso black cod for 1070 yen was so amazing that we ordered a second one! Just amazing!! Buttery and perfectly grilled. Yummy! The salmon sashimi and raw Botan prawns wer...e also standouts. Super tasty!

Superbb choice for whom wants to have nice Japanese fresh seafoods as breakfast! We had Uni-ikura don, salmon don, Oodoro, and kaniziru. The condition is really perfect and all things make me so happy :)

What's good about this place is for those who like to eat fresh off the shelf seafood. For some types of seafood (crabs, squid which are live), you can pick them and the restaurant will cook it for you. We came here to try 2 types of crabs : the snow crab and the hanasaki crab. The latter costs abo...ut half the price of the former, but it tasted sweeter. We paid around 7390¥ (S$93) inclusive of a starter dish. The ambience is always buzzing, as there are lots of tourists around.
