“A5 beef Sukiyaki is one of the best dishes!”

A5 beef is so good here with a very reasonable price. They do provide Pork dishes for those who’d like to eat Pork. Asari Honten is an authentic Japanese Sukiyaki house in a historical Japanese building. Not only we enjoy the food and the service, but the building and atmosphere are very historic... like going into a Samurai house 😆. Even though no one seems to speak English here but we could communicate without problems. Love everything here.

“It’s good but I had better”

I can be biased because I am making a comparison to Mishima in Kyoto. It’s a very small restaurant that could only serve 8 tables; therefore, a reservation is a must. It’s also a restaurant that’s renowned locally and among the Asian tourists. The food is decent, you get what you paid for, but it re...ally doesn’t stand out and isn’t really memorable. This restaurant is close to the rope way tram to the mountain top. For anyone who plans to take the tram, consider making this your evening stop. However, don’t come in with a really high expectation simply because of the reputation and history, you will be really disappointed (at the food and the price).

“Gotta be one of the best restaurants in Hakodate”

We managed to get a next day reservation for early dinner, which suited us fine since it gets dark around 4-ish in winter. Shoes have to be taken off before entering the dining area. We were escorted to a private dining room with traditional tatami setting. Each room has a buzzer to call the servi...ce staff for any request. Free carpark is located just beside the restaurant. The Kuroge wagyu A5 sirloin was simply the best of the lot we ordered - if not for the price, we would have gone for multiple rounds of ala carte top up. Each set comes with a hearty assortment of tofu, mushrooms etc. The chicken broth was light and refreshing. To top it off, freshly made yuzu sorbet was served after the meal. There is no better way to end the day in Hakodate than a delectable sukiyaki here. But to avoid disappointment, reservation is highly recommended.

“Not at all Yucky, best Sukiyaki!!”

You have to remove your shoes when you enter the reataurant. You will be ushered upstairs into a warm, cosy and huge room. We ordered both 2 plates of pork and beef. The food was delectable. I like the pork more because it was sliced thinly. The first round was cooked by the waitress after which we w...ere free to cook ourselves. The food was slightly salty though. The whole place was quiet but a slight noise can be heard from the next room. Do check the restaurant out when you are in Hakodate!

“Reservation is a MUST!”

Be sure to make a reservation to avoid disappointment as this restaurant is a favorite among locals & tourists. We were extremely lucky to secure a reservation for late lunch during the golden week. The restaurant itself is located on the 2nd level in a traditional Japanese tatami setting. Upon ar...riving, we were escorted to our own private room where you sit back and enjoy a tradional sukiyaki meal fully prepared/cooked by the waitress. We went with their recommendation (A5 sirloin) which is simply fantastic! Set came with plenty of greens and mushroom and choice of udon/rice. The beef was tender and melts right in your mouth. Sukiyaki broth was surprisingly light and not too sweet. And finish off your meal with refreshing yuzu sorbet.
