So delicious and very traditional, you will experience the best taste of Japanese food. I met a young waiter who could speak English very well, thanks for the compliment.

We went to Kyoto in mid October to celebrate my birthday and we picked this restaurant to have our first ever Kaiseki cuisine. The restaurant looks very traditional Japanese style, decorated with bamboo and lots of paintings. We have made the reservation online and didn't expected that the staff gr...eet us at the entrance at the front door. They guided us to the traditional Japanese room to start the dinner. Since we have mentioned that we don't want to have salmon in our dinner, so the server once again confirmed our request. The restaurant provided us written mean in Japanese. Our server is a mid-age experienced kind lady, who explains to us different dish and how to make it and the history of Kaiseki in English. We feel the dinner was so good, of course, still quite pricey, but at least they do everything right to make sure you have got what you are expected. I would come back again to celebrate another memorial date, if we travel to Kyoto again.

My daughter and I ate here as it was a top recommendation for a traditional kaiseki dinner. My 5 star recommendation is for the food and service. The food was amazing. We were so impressed. Be prepared to pay handsomely, as this is very expensive. Likewise, the service was on par with any Michelin s...tarred restaurant. Because it is so expensive, there are only a couple people there at any time. You sit in a room alone and it is dead silent. The air is likewise, very still.

We had set menu costing JPY 20,000 each and the total bill was over JPY 500,000 for the two of us. This was way overpriced and we will not come here again.

Takeshigerou was a very discreet Kyoto kaiseki restaurant about 15 minutes' walk from Nanzen-ji. Reservations were made via email in English, and they were able to offer us kids' bento for JPY 5000 each for our children aged 7 & 11. We hovered at the main gate upon arrival as we were not sure if... we were at the right place, and the staff came out to greet us. They knew of us when I gave them my name, and after removing our shoes at the inner door, we were showed to our private tatami dining room. Along the way, we passed a series of quiet corridors and closed doors, and did not see anyone else besides our waitress and the sukiyaki chef who came into our room halfway during the meal. The menu was written in both Japanese and English, and our waitress was able to converse in simple English. The food was refined, and very filling even though each dish only contained small servings. Price is expensive, but is expected of a Kyoto kaiseki restaurant. A good introduction to classic kaiseki dining.
