“Disappointed with cold bland dishes.”
Went here as a party on tour of Japan. Our Japanese guild was excited about us going to dine here and said we were very fortunate to do so after it being closed for 3 years due to pandemic. The dining rooms are very nice. The trio of raw fish starter were nice with the wasabi to add some heat. Apar...t from the tofu bubbling away in a thin white sauce everything else was cold and bland. We were later served with a hot broth with rice and cold cabbage. The dessert had no discernible flavour. The drinks carry a 10% service charge not mentioned on the price list. Not somewhere I would recommend.

“disappointing visit despite high reviews”
charging overrated prices for kiseki menu, had apples and tofu sauce, lots of items that were not worth the price. 12000 yen per person for 3 pieces of beef, quality not even up to standard of it's price

“Great Overall Restaurant!”
Great restaurant - a mix of futuristic and traditional delicious Japanese food! We came here for lunch, and expect to spend maybe 100-110 yen for four people. We came here with two adults and two kids and kids menu dishes were definitely great, I don’t remember exactly what the kids got but it coste...d 1600 yen and gave a remarkable amount of food. One hot pot dish was also great, and I would definitely recommend coming here if you are in Kyoto!

“Fantastic ”
This place was once a villa of Suminokura Ryoi, a multimillionaire. Then, it became the possession of Yamagata Aritomo, a powerful politician in Meiji Time. Now it is transformed into a Japanese restaurant Ganko. The atmosphere is excellent. You can enjoy an authentic Japanese cuisine, while watchin...g a traditional Japanese garden. It is fantastic!

“Stunning place for lunch! ”
We accidentally discovered this place on our walk to Gion and whowh what a beautiful surprise! You enter the restaurant, you are asked to take your shoes off, and they take you to a table overlooking the most stunning garden! We had a full section to ourselves. We enjoyed 2 bento boxes with complime...ntary coffee and cake - so delicious! it's expensive enough but in our opinion worth the price as the view is so stunning. A definite must when in Kyoto!
