GANKO Sanjohonten

This seems like a nice restaurant but there are only a few people when we were there. Maybe we were there at the wrong time at around 530pm. I liked the Sashimi and Sushi a lot.

I was surprised the ratings were not higher. we came with a local friend who frequents often. The sushi was melt-in-your-mouth good. I had salad and soup. We had a table of about 6 different menu items and everyone enjoyed it. Sushi, Sashimi, Salad, Rammen, etc.. The service was good. I like orderin...g on the tablet. made it easier for me. Not a cheap meal but the current strong dollar did make it a very affordable meal for an American. we were in a semi-private back room. I like the staff's traditional uniforms.

I've eaten here a few times over the years. Usually I have sushi, but this time I went for the sashimi and tempura set lunch. It was massive and really tasty...plus fantastic value. I could not fault any part of it to be honest. The meal was awesome and so was the service (I ordered on an iPad from ...my table and the food came so fast). It seems like they don't allow smoking in here any more so that made it even better! I'll definitely be back!

Went on 29Dec for dinner. Ordered 2 sets of beef sukiyaki, few sashimi, shabu shabu with additional plates of beef. All were served except for shabu shabu which were served 40 mins later. Even then the additional plates of beef were served first without hotpot and we had to remind the staff few ti...mes before the hotpot came. Hotpot was just clear water with a piece of kelp. Shabu shabu is just average.

Visited with friends after reading reviews online. There's an iPad on your table that you can order from - all in English, though worth keeping track of your purchases as no total is provided throughout and it's easy to rack up the food orders! Staff speak enough English to get by, and helpfully poi...nted out which dish was which when needed. All food was tasty, I would particularly call out the seared sushi (salmon and tuna) as they were especially tasty, but we had a variety including eel rolls, sashimi and dumplings and it was all lovely. The soybeans/edamame are black soybeans - a softer variety than usual so if you like the slight crunch of edamame you may want to avoid these. We ordered around 15 pieces of sushi each, and it came to £85 - felt like a very fair price for deliciously fresh sushi, attentive service and a nice meal. Drinks wise, I'd recommend trying the sparkling sake - much sweeter than the usual sake (in fact, barely tastes like sake at all) - I went back for seconds, it's a lovely sweet sparkling drink.
