“Unfortunately a disappointing bad copy of Japanese haute cuisine”

The omakase menu we had was a disappointment. Apart from a couple of the 8 servings , the rest unfortunately lacked the taste we have been used to at other Japanese restaurants serving such menus. Two out of the four wines they offered by the glass were un drinkable. They had no red wines in full ...bottles on the wine list . So it was a bad copy of Japanese haute cuisine.

“Kizahashi Kyoto”

One of the most beautifully designed modern hotel and restaurant. The entry itself is quite an experience. It’s like walking through MOMA or The Guggenheim to get to the restaurant. The restaurant itself is very modern formal Japanese. The staff is in kimonos and the tablewares are works of art.... Every plate, bowl, and etc is a perfect match with the ingredients. Each dish looked like it was put together with a microscope and extremely well thought through but unfortunately traditional Japanese is probably too bland for most visitors. Our waitress sometimes explained the ingredients and what was on the plate and sometimes did not. It’s very difficult to try to figure out what’s what in Japan unless you’re a local. It wasn’t like she was too shy to explain. If anything she seemed a little bit annoyed that we were foreigners. Either way the food was beautiful but taste was just ok. But what do I know? I’m just a foreigner in Kyoto.

“High-end dining experience next to Kyoto Station”

Excellent food, it is fancy and social media worthy. The menu has prix fixe sets and a-la-carte items, but I do not recommend choosing your own individual dishes. Go with the set dining experience and choose for your level of financial comfort, paired with drinks that match the meals.

How their food is cooked, how their dishes are arranged, and what their containers look like are all designed to please visitors from abroad.
