“High-end dining experience next to Kyoto Station”
Excellent food, it is fancy and social media worthy. The menu has prix fixe sets and a-la-carte items, but I do not recommend choosing your own individual dishes. Go with the set dining experience and choose for your level of financial comfort, paired with drinks that match the meals.

“Good Japanese Dishes that are too Japanese.”
How their food is cooked, how their dishes are arranged, and what their containers look like are all designed to please visitors from abroad.

“Excellent atmosphere, cuisine, and good for our baby!”
Tried this place as our first traditional Japanese breakfast (we were staying next door at the Kyoto Century Hotel which connects to The Thousand). We were very happy that this place had a high chair with straps for our 15 mo daughter. We've been hard pressed to find almost anywhere with that type o...f seat. The cuisine was delicious even though we didn't really know half the stuff in there. Baby was able to eat practically everything we gave her, save the pickled vegetables. Staff were very inviting, the atmosphere relaxed and serene, plus heated (it must've been 40 outside). Loved it and would definitely recommend even with a baby in tow!

“A new gem”
We are staying at the sister hotel Kyoto Century, and were directed through the connecting corridor to the Thousand Hotel. There we were introduced to two exquisite restaurants, one Japanese and one Italian. I will review the Japanese restaurant, Hazahashi here and the Italian restaurant in a separa...te review. First the setting is very elegant but comfortable. It has only been open for 6 weeks and remains undiscovered. There were several prix fix choices but we choice a la cart at the chefs bar. Chef Hayami was welcoming and charming. We do not speak Japanese and he speaks only a little English but we enjoyed finding ways to communicate, sometimes with the help of the iPad. Chef brought us a platter of beautiful fresh fish to chose for our sashimi while a stack of charcoal heated up. The sashimi was perfect with the unago toasted directly on a hot coal. Next we chose from another collection of Maine ingrediates that were transformed into delectable taste treats accompanied by ample delicious sake. It was a meal we will long remember and only regret that it is so far from our home in Needham, Massachusetts. USA.
