Gobankan

First, the name of the restaurant is "Steakhouse Gobankan". You can see from the photos that the name is "Steakhouse". This place has been open for 46 plus years, with the same owners and the same wait staff. They are proud of the fact that their ceramic steak plate has never been changed. The in...terior also looks like an old steak house from the 80's. Everything is dark and brown. They have loads of cherry firewood INSIDE the restaurant, they point to the stack of wood and explain that their roast beef was smoked using these cherry wood. The menu is also from the 80's. Roast beef salad with onion dressing. Potato and corn portage soup with a bun. The steak with red wine vinegar "sauce"..... (see photo below). That being said, the steak was pretty good. Cooked properly, as ordered. (Medium rare) While it is not a Kobe steak, it's steaks are domestic and therefore fatty and very tasty. As long as you avoid the "sauce" it is a darn good piece of meat. Price point is about 5,000 yen per person. Not bad considering the cut of meat. Many steak houses with better environs ask for more money. There is parking both in front of the restaurant AND in the covered parking lot beside the restaurant. If you are looking for a good piece of meat at a decent price, this might fit the bill or if you want to travel back in time, this definitely is the place. Will be go back? Perhaps we are sure there is other steak options out there that doesn't involve time travel.
