“Amazing experience in traditional Japanese setting”
Multi-course tempura encompassing delicious seafood, mushrooms and vegetables. We experienced great service in a private dining room which had a window out onto a beautiful garden... lovely peaceful ambience and friendly, helpful and very attentive staff mark this as a must-do dining adventure. the ...building itself is over 100 years old. The food is delicious and served with advice on which salt or sauce to use. We drank sake with our dinner for the full experience. Oishii!!

“Always A Great Experience”
We've been to Tempura Endo several times and take all visitors here. They offer several price levels reflecting the items served. Great service, lovely ambience, a beautiful counter and friendly staff mark this as different from others. The food is fresh and served hot with helpful advice on which s...alt or sauce to use. Beer and sake are available for the full experience. We are always happy with our visit.

“Decor 10 food 5”
am a aficionado of tempura. Once spent a year trying 30+ restaurants in japan , including Tokyo , Kyoto Hakata , and ten top ryokans . As was staying in Higashiyama-Ku, decided to try endo’s main branch. ( honten ) most trip advisor reviews were gushing ; one review dissed the place pretty badly. ...From my perspective & with 30+ years in Asia; i would fall in between . The items served were surprisingly greasy . Maybe there is an issue with batter . Even the shrimps were oily . I was at a 1:30 seating ; and am pretty sure the oil was not fresh . Nice wine offerings , but no draft beer or champagne by the glass —- the right accompaniment to tempura. The decor is amazing . Service is also pretty flawless . But the tempura itself falls short . I actually left before last course , a bit queasy due to the oil being a bit off Not terrible , but not good either Reminded me of the Chinese philosophy: if the decor is too nice , food will be average ( as all money already spent on decorations) Try elsewhere

“WORST TEMPURA EXPERIENCE IN JPN”
Don’t even bother. Firstly, they have a branch JUST for non-Japanese people where their D- grade staff seem to work to cut their teeth. Our sake stayed in its bottle, without one single waitress being considerate enough to A) pour the top-ups for us B) for It to be kept cold (or decanted) After t...he appalling first 10 minutes, we proceeded to begin our tempura set meal, in which we were hurried and rushed to finish each piece of tempura by our chef. So much so that by piece 6, I had to tell the chef to stop serving us too quickly, because piece 3,4, and 5 were still sitting on my plate. Lack of eye-sight? I don’t think so. He looked keen to get home quickly as we were not worth his time or effort. Tempura was oily and some were soggy. Best way I can describe it without completely tearing the chef’s efforts apart. We’ll leave it at that. Let’s just say we left 50% of our pieces on the plate with neither Chef nor waitress even nothing to ask us if anything was wrong. It was very clear they did not care in the slightest. Fast forward to the end of our meal, our tendon came. Having dined at superb tempura restaurants in the past, we had an idea what a proper tendon should taste like. None of that here. Our tendon came soggy and room temperature. Tempura aficionados will recognize that this is a huge no-no. This clearly shows that the tendon was pre made, casually sitting in the counter while we were wrapping up our meal. We barely touched ours. Last but not least, when it came to clearing our table, only the plates were cleared but even then only after 2 or 3 had collected. The actual counter space in front of me was not wiped clean even once. And the icing on the cake? Our sake wasn’t even done and we were indirectly told to leave by the bill being brought over to us unprompted. For $150 USD/ per set, with a solid bottle of sake, my advice would be, save the disappointment, DON’T EVEN BOTHER.
