“Beautiful and Tasty”
Traveling with my daughter, I wanted her to experience a shojin-ryori meal, and Izusen was within the Daitoku-ji temple complex where we had just visited. The ladies at the restaurant make dining easy, and the seasonal, vegetarian food is beautiful and tasty. It is a lovely experience. After lunch,... enjoy aburamochi skewers and tea at one of the two famous shops by the Imamiya Shrine close by.

“First experience of shojin ryori”
This restaurant only serves shojin ryori, or vegetarian meal in the style of Japanese buddhist temples. The restaurant is inside a buddhist temple and maybe a little tricky to find. It offers 3 set menus, we chose the one with pricing in the middle. There were many courses, in different preparati...on styles. The waitress would introduce each meal in Japanese, without any English explanation but we didn't ask for it. It's a wonderful experience and recommended for those who haven't tried.

“Teppatsu shojin-ryori looks so cute!!”
This restaurant is located in front of the Daitokuji Temple gate and serves "Teppatsu shojin-ryori" (vegetarian food served in an iron bowl). "Teppatsu" is an iron bowl used by monks to receive food. Seasonal vegetarian dishes are served in the bowl and look so cute! It is rare to find iron bowl... cuisine that offers the true essence of Japanese cuisine. Yuba Kaiseki, which is not an iron bowl dish, is also delicious. No need to enter Daitokuji Temple to get this restaurant. If you do not plan to visit Daitokuji Temple, I recommend visiting this restaurant or the one in Sagano.

“Best Vegan food in Kyoto in a good setting”
Great good, good ambience and traditional vibes. Set inside a temple area, this vegan place had a great variety of food you can choose from the set menu. Forget the translation and just order anything and it will be great.

“Real food with classy presentation”
Lovely little spot inside the Daitokuji complex. The food and green tea they serve is excellent and feels very authentic. Avoid the 12-1pm lunch rush and go late for a quieter experience.
