"Obanzai" is written in kanji as Obanzai.
The kanji ``ban'' has the meaning of ``something that is always there.''
For example, it is also used in ``Bangasa'', ``Bancho'', ``Banken'', etc.
In other words, ``home-cooked meals made with vegetables that are always available'' are called bansai.
