“Incredibly rude”

We have been travelling through Japan and been to several Shinshindo cafes. The pastries are very tasty. However, on this occasion we were left incredibly unhappy. We ordered our food and sat down. Half way through eating we were interrupted by a waiter with a sign saying that we had to buy a drink... to sit and eat food. We were then rudely gestured to leave. No signs indicated this and it was very embarrassing in front of lo the other customers. Given how polite a society Japan is, this was quite shocking. We won't be going again and would recommend Andersen instead.

Neat cafe with a nice ambience in a very accessible location. Breakfast set was very affordable! Good coffee with free refills too. The ham toast breakfast set I got cost 630yen and was better that any other cafe I tried here in Kyoto. It is situated near "exit 24" of shijo subway. Perfect for a goo...d breakfast! However, if you're looking for a Japanese breakfast this place is primarily western and would not be for you.

“Western breakfast in a Kyoto bakery”

FOOD & DRINKS: big and delicious choice of bread, pastries, sandwiches - even yoghurt; complete coffee menu with cappuccino, café moccha and so on; I liked it especially because Shinshindo is a Kyoto bakery, so it feels local despite being Western style. LOCATION: there a several Shinshindos in Kyo...to - we were at the one directly at Shijo station (Karasuma line) - very centrally located VALUE FOR MONEY: very good TIP: try the raisin scone and the yoghurt with müsli (it contains raisins and honey, I loved it!)

“Elegant environment, efficient service”

This is one of my favorite cafe in Kyoto. Located in the basement of Laque building. It sells bakery items, made-to-order salads/sandwiches, coffee, tea and the usual staples of a cafe. It offers breakfast and brunch sets at an affordable price( generally starting under 1000 yen). Elegant environmen...t with polite and efficient staff. Food is always fresh. To go is packed with care. Definitely will come back.
