“Great Tappanyaki in Gion”
Small teppanyaki restaurant near Gion district. We went for our wedding anniversary. The restaurant only has 8 seats. However, we were the only two people there for the 6:30 PM seating. Service was attentive. MUST have a reservation. Food was excellent.

“Very good Teppanyaki in Gion, Kyoto”
A small Teppanyaki restaurant in the heart of Gion, with only 9 seats (a table for 4 and a table for 5). Food is delicious and very well prepared. They offer a couple of menus (only meat or meat and seafood). A very nice experience and worth the money. Menu is about 12,000 yen per person, with drink... and some extra you can reach 14k or 15k, or more if you drink wine. If you are in Kyoto, don’t miss it.

“Kicked out by the manager in a rude and shocking way”
Two days ago, on Wednesday 28 August at 21h00, I entered this restaurant to ask if they had availability for dinner, and while waiting for someone to welcome me, I used their restroom. When out of the restroom, I was “welcomed” by the restaurant manager (dressed in white as a cook) who immediately s...tarted yelling at me and ordered me to leave in an incredibly rude way — by shouting “out!! out!!” and physically opening the main door to send me out. When I resisted explaining that I had come to have dinner, from far away and based on an experience l had there years before, he simply kept yelling, asked me if I had a reservation, said it was “reservation only” and started shouting in an even more aggressive, surreal way: “out! out!! OUT!!”. To put this in context: I was dressed in a business suit (dark blue trousers / white shirt) and well groomed, so there was no reason to even remotely justify anything similar. It was totally shocking and I think it’s important to share this experience. It was disgraceful for the image of this restaurant and more in general of the Japanese way to deal with non-Japanese customers.

“ Awesome personalised experience of japanese flavours.”
Visiting Kyoto with my wife during our vacations, we decided to have dinner in this place, hidden in a small building of Gion area. The restaurant only has 10 seats in two sections, so It is necessary to make reservations in advance. The place offer an outstanding sense of intimacy. It...s specialty is Teppan Kappou (food). They propouse a sophisticated multicourse expierence based on meat and seafood. Appetisers and food were exceptional and presentation delicate. They offer different menus that you have to confirm in advance in order to facilitate the preparation with fresh ingredients. These menus include delicacies like lobster, wagyou, foie gras, shrimps and so on. We choosed Nozomi and Sou menus. The Nozomi menu came with foie gras, pork soup and wagyou beef. The Sou menú came with seasonal vegetables, prawns and seafood, miso soup and wagyou tenderloin. Both wagyous came with five kinds of salts and two different sauces. The chef and his assistant, who also is sommelier, are very friendly and cozy. The wine list is really good. The restaurant is quite expensive but It worth trying!!!!

“WOW”
There are times in your life you question if it is all worth it. Walking into Sou, I had no expectation or idea what I was getting myself into. All I felt was hunger and the desire to eat. Well Sou is the mother that knows what its child needs. Every course had it’s unique preparation and the food i...s so fresh that the moment the food touched my tongue it felt like the food gods had blessed me. The host was very knowledgeable about what was being put on our plate and the chef cooked with such elegance that sometimes I’d find my self in a lost gaze. So when your experiencing what Sou has to offer and you ask yourself if it is all worth it, just let the richness of the food guide you to what I can say feels like heaven. Yes I left feeling great.
