“Excellent traditional fugu”

Excellent traditional fugu restaurant, run by a nice couple. I am a regular guest since over ten years, returning every year. I like particular their rather thick cut sashimi with a rather strong ponzu sauce. Equally good is the sushi with a mint leave. Ask for shirako: they offer it grilled or nabe.... I prefer the second. The interior is simple but cozy. The friendly service contributes to the warm atmosphere.

I know this restaurant since a very long time. Every time I visit Kyoto I eat there, mostly even twice. It's a simple, but cosy little place run by a family. The daughter They offer a great variety of Fugu dishes, I like particularly the sashimi, which is thickly sliced and you have the option to pu...t salt on it, which i find goes very well with this slicing. The dishes they offer are so many that i can always vary a little if I come twice. Both meat quality and cooking is impeccable. It is run by a very nice couple. This adds to the nice atmosphere. I am always keen to return to this place. Warmly recommended!

I know this restaurant since a very long time. Every time I visit Kyoto I eat there, mostly even twice. It's a simple, but cosy little place run by a family. The daughter knows perfect English, the menu is in English too. They offer a great variety of Fugu dishes, I like particularly the sashimi, wh...ich is thickly sliced and you have the option to put salt on it, which i find goes very well with this slicing. The dishes they offer are so many that i can always vary a little if I come twice in a short space of time. They offer three types of shirako (milt) which is not in the written menu, ask for them separately. I always take all three varieties. The fried shirako is particularly good. They also offer 3 pieces of fugu sushi, one filled with shirako. Both meat quality and cooking is impeccable. I am always keen to return to this place. Warmly recommended!

“Excellent quality and warm atmosphere ”

I am a regular customer of the restaurant since 2001. As regards price - quality relationship it's one of the best fugu restaurants I know. The sashimi is particularly well sliced. Their specialty is to eat it either with a little salt or a special sauce with raw fugu milt. The milt you can not only... have raw and grilled but deep fried too (warmly recommended). The restaurant is run as a family business by an extremely kind family which makes for a warm and friendly atmosphere. This is a typically small family restaurant where the whole accent is on excellent food in a simple but agreeable atmosphere. I sometimes go twice even if I am only for a few days in Kyoto.

“The Place to go for Top Quality Fugu”

We first came here for the first time in September last year. At the time, the fugu season had just started and when we tried to book, we were told that the restaurant was not sure if it could take our reservation since they were not sure if they could source the fish. A couple of days later, they... contacted us and said they could take our reservation. When we eventually dined at the restaurant, we found that it is a small cosy restaurant run by a couple and their daughter. The wife is actually Chinese from Shanghai but she has been living in Japan for over 30 years. She explained to us that her husband is the second generation owner of the restaurant and that they specialise in serving a type of wild-caught fugu called Tora Fugu. It's supposed to be one of the best, if not the best type of fugu. We loved the meal which commenced with fugu sashimi and fugu jelly, proceeded to grilled fugu (the various parts have different textures and provide an interesting contrast), then deep fried fugu (almost like fried chicken but much better) and then concluded with a fugu nabe in which a delicious congee ending the meal was prepared. On this occasion, similar dishes to those described above were served. However, the highlight was the massive Fugu Shirako (smelt) which is now in season. We had that firstly as fugu shirako sashimi, then as part of the sauce for dipping the fugu sashimi and then grilled. We loved the meal and will most certainly come back again. If you like fugu, this is the place to be. And if you have not tried fugu, come here and try it. It will be an educational experience.
