Booked set menu a month ahead 6600 pp inc drinks. Given drink option, food was good for price. Very lively on a Saturday night but not too noisy and great ambiance and atmosphere. Old house isakya atmosphere but not some tiny place. Good service but little English. I recommend for the price.

Very popular small plate restaurant located in a renovated Kyoto townhouse - worth going just to see the townhouse. We were a bit late on a very rainy night and, although we had a reservation, the place was completely full with people waiting. Everything we tried was good including the sake flight....

I spent over 4600 jpy for food to be thrown across the table and laughed at when I complained about the service and nasty cheap quality of the food. Book elsewhere. It’s nothing more than a fast cook shop for a high churn rate of guests. Begrudging table service. The seafood was served without nap...kins, the dishes thrown across the table with a bang. The rib meat was chewy, nasty and fatty. Hands down the worse service and dining experience I have had in Japan. Simply, merely just elsewhere.

Sumi Roman is a great restaurant and we were so pleased to get a table on a very busy Saturday night. The interior is lovely, and the food and drinks were tasty. I had the Kyoto Craft Matcha Beer, Japanese Potato Salad (so good), and the Salmon Sushi (excellent). The food and drinks were well priced... and I would really recommend dining at Sumi Roman which I also enjoyed for seemingly to be an authentically Japanese restaurant.
