“An amazing place for creative Japanese cuisine!”
If you’re wandering through Pontocho Alley and are wondering if this really is the right place to have a memorable dinner, then get out of the Alley and head for this small restaurant only two minutes away. Ask for a seat at the chef’s kitchen (only 8 seats available) and start your dinner with th...e Obanzai appetizers (try all of ‘em I’d say) to realise your entered a heaven of wonderful flavours. Order 3 or 4 more dishes per person to share. The menu is centered around the Odashi, a Japanese soup stock. Almost all dishes use it. All the food is seasonal, prepared with love and dedication and presented with a smile and a good dose of humor. Great food by lovely people! We particularity appreciated the Sashimi (flavoured to be eaten without soy sauce!) the Udon Noodles with Lemon (refreshing in summer), the Mizunasu Sashimi (eggplant with salt and soy sauce), the Dashi Kara (delicious fried chicken) and the Dashimaki (a Japanese omelette and great show cooking at the same time, when the omelette is prepared layer per layer). And try the mackerel in one of the many preparations. If you’re in for a cocktail try the Chuhai, made with Shocyu, a Japanese distilled spirit. We liked the food so much we went back again the day after!!

“Unique and delicious”
We had an absolutely delicious meal. It is a cozy and friendly atmosphere. It is a unique take on traditional Japanese dishes, very innovative and refreshing. They have an English menu.

“Delicious Japanese obanzai food!”
The obanzai and dashi was absolutely delicious and a real treat to try some of the more 'home style' Japanese food which is difficult to find in London! The staff were very kind and welcoming and it was great fun to be in front of the counter to see the food being prepared. Definitely recommend the ...Nisshin udon and fried chicken in dashi broth!

“Wonderful dinner experience ”
Simple but delicious dishes prepared with love! The obanzai dishes were fresh and sweet, and the fried nasu dishes were juicy and tender. Topped it off with a refreshing strawberry chuhai. Best meal in Kyoto so far.
