We had had a culinary dinner with small dishes and a great ambiance! Told the cook I looked spicy, got fresh wasabi and even a wasabi drink, +++ recommend!

“A celebration of Japanese Artistry on a Plate - the sashimi - the absolute Best this 64 yr old EVER tasted !”

Sitting at the sushi counter, you watch in awe the Maestro K. adeptly and brilliantly arrange one plate after the other with care and precision. - only matched by the divine taste! Each dish, each condiment ,bowl of soup ,beverage is presented on stunning Japanese pottery dishes . The aesthetics m...ake you conscious , that this visual feast for the eyes makes this dining experience simply magical .The staff is so kind and helpful . How fresh is the fish - well it helps if the chef can take it from the temperature controlled aquarium Outside ! Reservations could assure you a place or come early for dinner in mid week - and it’s right near the Higashiyama-Sanjo subway in Kyoto. Maybe that is why it’s uber busy on a Monday night and we went several times . Sashimi will never be the same - oh one more thing the peanut ice cream and the shiso ice is to die for !

“Terrific little game place”

About half a mile from the Westin, and next to the subway station, this little tucked in place was a treat! Yes, they do have a compulsory $5 appetizer, but it is great, “shabu shabu” much like a melting pot. The broth is an excellent light soup, and the veggies and fish can be eaten raw or as part ...of the broth. They were very accommodating, I don’t do raw shrimp, so they got me salmon sashimi, one of the freshest and best I have had to date. The pancake and the air fried fish cake appetizers were very good. With some cold sake to go with it, we had an enjoyable evening. It is moderately priced with most appetizers in the $4-6 range and full sashimi platter for about $18 (10 pieces). Limited English speaking but more then enough to get by. Warm and cordial, I will highly recommend

“A place for fresh sashimi”

Although servings was quite small, they do serve fresh sashimi. The beef was also good. A little pricey but a total good experience

“So much money for so little food”

Reviewed 01/Apr/2018

This restaurant seemed popular but I can’t think why. A mandatory starter (served as an excuse for a service charge) bought us a teaspoonful of rice, a raw quail egg and a couple of tiny pieces of (admittedly nice) tuna - that’s 500 yen each for something we didn’t want - duck breast ordered was hal...f fat - 5 tiny slices at 800 yen, a tiny portion of tempura veg another 800 and also 3 small beers, a bit of rice and sashimi - there goes 5 and a half thousand yen. Luckily I wasn’t particularly hungry and as a rule I have a very small appetite but I doubt these portions would satisfy most adults - the food was OK but unexceptional. No problem with splashing out on a costly meal - but never paid so much money for so little food of middling quality.
