Nakamura

After a brief conversation in my limited Japanese and their limited English about what I could/couldn't eat, the food started coming course after course, paired with a number of different sakes. We ate until we couldn't eat any more and drank until we couldn't drink anymore. The total tab was abou...t Y9600 or $90 a person. We had seasonal vegetables, raw fish, fish cooked various ways, onigiri, and much more. One of the best meals I have ever had! The setting is deceptively casual. We sat at the counter looking into the kitchen where the chefs worked. We chatted throughout the meal with Nakamura himself and his assistants as they prepared courses for us and the other guests. They never seemed in a hurry, there was no shouting or banging in the kitchen, just quiet excellence. I've been plotting a return visit as soon as I can find an excuse to go back to Osaka.

This is certainly one of the most enjoyable Kappo restaurant I have visited. Why? Because Chef Nakamura knows the success of a Kappo restaurant is the rapport between the chef and it’s diners. The minute I stepped into the restaurant, I was greeted with the charismatic smile of Chef Nakamura. Follow... which, I can feel the closeness of his diners with him. The whole restaurant is so jolly. It makes me feel so relax that I drank more sake than I usually do. Food is really good, and the chef great humor keeps the house full. There is an incredible artwork on the wall by his daughter when she was 9 of the smiley chef entitled ‘Dad frying my favorite croquette’. Wished I took a picture of it!!! I had a lovely time, and a great meal! Thank you so much! 😁

Let's start with the positives...my water glass was never not filled, and I'm a water guy, so that's really important to me...regretfully that's where the positives ended. I read a lot about this place and was super excited to experience what i thought would be a wonderful culinary experience. Was g...iven a choice between three set menus, but the only thing that they could tell us to differentiate from the menus was the price and "there would be different ingredients", that being said, was completely underwhelmed by the cooking, the miso cod was overcooked and hard, the steak was fatty and undercooked (didn't melt the marbling) and the sashimi was no more fresh than something i could get at a 7-11. Lastly, after seeing that plates returned partially eaten there was absolutely no attempt to remedy the problem or even inquire if something was wrong. Well something was wrong...of all the many fantastic places to dine in Osaka, one evening was wasted here and regretfully it was my last night in Osaka...

We had dined at Nakamura last night. It was an amazing meal to eat and watch how the chefs prepares the food. We had the set meal since we didn't speak any Japanese. However, once there, they did a great job translating the things we were eating. Phenomenal experience. Definitely have the hotel make... a reservation for you.
