“A very special meal”
While staying in Kyoto we wanted to mark our last night with a special meal. This was wonderful. I think we may have been the only people in the entire restaurant - but if not, that just shows how attentive the service was, how quiet and private our dining room was, and how well looked after we felt.... The food was delicious. Flavours were delicate and balanced. Drinks delicious. Really happy we came. Local area is lovely for a walk as well. Ladies bathrooms were clean but could have done with a bit of modernisation.

“Lovely experience, amazing meal, just wow.”
There are so many amazing restaurant options in Kyoto, but so thrilled we were able to enjoy an evening at Shimogamosaryo. I will let the photos tell the story, and just add that it was worth every penny (or rather yen).

“Super expensive, dinner in a rush, very avarage food”
Went to this place that was highly recommended by the Ritz Carlton Kyoto. Well, could not have been a poorer experience. The restaurant was empty, food was really average. Staff was not really nice and spoke very poor English. The only time they were nice was when they brought the bill, 700 euros fo...r 4 people, and we did not order any bottle of wine or sake. Would really NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

“Japanese Kaiseki at its finest”
We had a wonderful evening at Shimogamosaryo in May 2018. Service was very friendly and waitress spoke reasonably well english. The was slight problem with drink order as things got lost in translation but this didn’t effect the experience too much. We were seated in a private cabinet with glass w...alls towards the garden. Atmosphere was peaceful and sophisticated. There were some other customers to be heard but not seen. About 10-course Kaiseki dinner was served in appropriate tempo and dishes were explained to us sufficiently. Food was well prepared, carefully and beautifully presented. Delghtful cup of macha was served to end the meal with. Though rather expensive, we were very satisfied with our evening in this traditional and respected restaurant. I recommend this place for a special evening to experience the best that Japanese cuisine has to offer.
