Sakamoto

Lovely New Year’s Day menu at Kappo Sakamoto. Each course was beautiful in its presentation and tasted divine. We had many wonderful meals in Japan, but this by far was superior. The arrangement, service and of course taste was so far beyond everything else it is difficult to find words to compar...e. The intricate balance of flavors was something to behold. At the end of the evening the chef came around and spoke with us, asking our opinion. He genuinely cared about our experience. And the woman whom we can only assume was his mother, was a wonderful treat. We truly felt like cherished guests in their home. What an honor for us.

Probably our favorite Kaiseki meal we had in Japan. They were so warm and welcoming and every course was beautiful and delicious. Especially enjoyed the tofu skin and the persimmon for dessert was the juiciest and freshest I've ever had. Truly outstanding place! Highly recommend!!

Visited following a friend’s recommendation. Beautiful location in Kyoto and a small and inviting dining room facing the chefs. We had a large number of local dishes, many of which were beautifully presented (the sashimi and tofu dishes were particular highlights). We were however disappointed w...ith the service, which ultimately didn’t match up to the price point. We were one of two parties dining, and despite this the chefs didn’t make an effort to introduce many of the dishes (on a number of occasions we had to specifically ask what was being passed to us across the bar).

Lovely small restaurant overlooking a canal. Dinner was excellent— each course was beautifully prepared and delicious. Tried a few sakes to complement the meal and they were very good also. Service was impeccable.

Ryuta Sakamoto is a soft-spoken, outstanding chef. His skill set includes more than the ability to create an exceptional dining experience. He deals and works with his staff who together perform and deliver an outstanding Omakase dinner. The space he has created is beautiful.....right through to the... toilet room. With only 14 seats available, we felt privileged to have secured 4 seats at the bar, so we enjoyed the interaction with Ryuta-san and his staff. Beauty and elegance all evening. And the elegant woman who greets you at the door is his mom. A special woman, to be sure!
