“Great Little Place on Way in Kiyomizu-dera Area”
On our 4th visit to the Kiyomizu-dera area we were looking for a small place, quiet place to dine as there are many larger restaurants that are noisier. The Kiyomizu-dera area is quite noisy with all the tourists and many shoppers. We did not want to go too far off the main path since we had a tea c...eremony in 1 hour but wanted a quiet place all the same. We saw a friendly face peaking from inside the restaurant so we decided to go in. What a great choice. The restaurant is bright, homey, and comfortable. A little trendy and modern but very comfortable. Our hosts were very gracious and took the time to explain the but menu items. My wife, daughter, and I ordered 3 different dishes so that we could share. I opted for the tofu set since it seems to be their specialty. My dishes were tasty and clean with a good balance of savoury and sweet. Out hosts were also nice to explain to us how to go to our next appointment since we were told it would be tricky to get there. Out fried chicken and rice and tempura were also very tasty. The prices were good and most of all the service was one of the friendliest (if not the most friendly) we had in Kyoto. If you have been in Japan for some time, you know that friendly is par for the course. I would recommend this restaurant for families with small children or students on a budget who are in the area or headed towards Gion.
