“Michelin Bib Gourmand Sara Soba”
Izushi Town is famous for earthenware and soba noodles. Combine the two and you get Sara Soba. There are countless sara soba restaurants within walking distance. What is sara soba? Sara means plates in Japanese. They serve mini servings of buckwheat noodles on these small plates. They are show...casing their earthenware. This restaurant only serves sara soba. Each order comes with raw eggs, yamaimo, daikon, wasabi, and negi as dipping condiments. You can finish with sobayu, the water that they cooked the soba noodles, you mix this with the dipping sauce and drink it as a soup as a finisher. As a bib gourmand, I had expectations. The noodles itself was okay. The first serving was a tad dry but the second serving was what I expected. Chewy and quite nice. What sets this restaurant apart was the decor. Just amazing. Our room had a beautiful view of the koi fish, you can see the lobby tree and just amazing decor. As a tourist, we were just happy that we got inside. We ended up eating 25 plates for two people. The last five plates were a stretch. but I wanted to photograph all the different plate designs. They would need to work on food consistency to be even considered for a Michelin star but it wasn't a total disappointment.
