“Despite confirmed reservation - we found the restaurant closed”
We had a confirmed reservation at this steakhouse for my husband's birthday on a Friday night. Showed up 10 minutes early for a 7:30pm reservation and there were no lights on and the door was locked. The posted hours stated they were open (5:30-10:30pm every day but Monday) - so there was no mistake... made on our part. We tried calling the restaurant - no answer. Very disappointing experience for what should have been a special occasion.

“The experience. Only in Japan.”
Decided to treat ourselves to an expensive dinner after the crowds at Kiyomizu-dera. This restaurant had the best reviews in the area. We were extremely lucky to had gotten in without a reservation. They only have a dozen seats. The kobe steak was good needless to say. What impressed us was the ba...ked potato, rice and the entire meal presentation the old-fashioned way. Their service was what I would call old-world charm. We were thoroughly entertained even though the proprietors spoke limited English. We spent a good 15 minutes to chill and admire their photos in their upstairs gallery. The experience. Only in Japan.

“Awesome steak, fabulous host and just a magical experience”
Our family (including a nearly 3 year old) stayed in an adjoining house to Ashiya Miyami Steakhouse. Our Wagyu beef steak meal with traditional a Japanese accompaniments was a real highlight of our holiday. And, of course, Tokiko was the consummate hostess. Our grandson was totally absorbed by Tok...iko’s many tricks and games. When visiting Kyoto, dining at Ashiya Miyami is a “ must”!

“A special night!”
I had been here for an excellent dinner 50 years ago. On a visit to Kyoto in December 2022 I had to try to have dinner here again. Amazingly this place is just as it was 50 years ago and the Wagyu steak dinner was again EXCELLENT!!! And the same owner was there to welcome us and visit while we had... the wonderful meal. She entertained us and gave us a tour of the displays on the 2nd floor. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a great meal and evening while in Kyoto!

“We had a wonderful special dinner”
We had a wonderful dinner time in this lovely restaurant! Not only the food was excellent (exquisite beef steak) but also the host. She cared for us the whole evening. We had an interesting introduction to house history and its visitors e.g. Bill Clinton, Dustin Hofmann etc. We would definitely re...commend this hidden pearl for a special dinner experience.
