“Great soba meal in a lovely old restaurant”

We went for lunch at about 11:25 am on a Sunday. Fortunately we managed to get a table for two on the second floor without queueing. It is an easy walk from exit 3 (elevator) of the Karasuma Oike subway station and crossing the road. Exit 1 will be on the same side but need to climb some stairs. A...long the way we saw very interesting vending machines offering a range of items such as sake cups, surprise gifts etc. The historic townhouse of Honke Owariya is a wooden building from the beginning of the Meiji era. We entered through the Taisan tree, which has been watching over Owariya since its founding, and the curtain of "Takara". There are chair seats both on the first and second floor. We ordered the hot soba with chicken and leek. It came with a minidon of egg lightly cooked over the rice. We also ordered the grated daikon radish with sesame soba. Both tasted very good. Towards the end of the meal, they gave us a small pot of the boiled water used for cooking hot soba to drink as it has high mineral content. It was a very satisfying meal both for the food and the ambience of dining in an old restaurant. Many locals were dining here too.

“The wait is worth it. Loved the simplistic, but complex soba!”

OMG. A historical place deemed to be as Kyoto's oldest restaurant. Waited for maybe 1.5 hours, and it was worth it. The simplicity of the dish but the complexity of the flavors floored me. I traveled solo, and I ordered the soba with fish, and it was delightful. I also ordered the tempura which is d...elicious. I would definitely come back here once in Kyoto again, just masterful. Love it.

We arrived at around 1.20 and got a table at 2. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick. The food was amazing and very aesthetically appealing. Portion size are great and the little cakes they sell at the counter are also delightful.

I came along here after visiting the Imperial Palace at around 4 PM and was able to get a seat no problem. The restaurant definitely has a nice vibe about it. The staff are very friendly and the service is quick. I got the udon and shrimp tempura and enjoyed each bite of it.
