“Great dinner!”
On the more affordable side compared to a lot of other kaiseki style meals in Kyoto, this is definitely recommended for a stop. We were able to get a reservation a few days before in the middle of the week and wouldn’t recommend trying to walk in (for dinner at least). Food was deserving of its Mic...helin star, presented nicely and the staff was welcoming. Highlights were wagyu, scallops with sesame and jelly, fig with miso, and the sashimi.

“Exquisite lunch at Shuhaku”
Although the Shuhaku restaurant is on a corner position in the pedestranised area of Higashiyama, it does not have a prominent signage other than a name on a wall lamp. We walked passed the restaurant twice without realising we had walk passed it. Shuhaku is a small establishment with limited seati...ng. We’d made a reservation one month in advance and pre paid the meal. Lunch was a Omakase kaiseki meal presented in a western style. Very well presented and fresh ingredients. I like in particular the crab meat ball soup. The restaurant uses old woodfire and I could see the staff fanning the fire to keep the interior warm. Staff were very friendly. We had a wonderful meal and a unique experience in Kyoto.

“Shuhaku”
Nobuhisa Yoshida is a very modest chef. He shops daily to feed his guests the most sublime, seasonal fare. Ever dish, from vegetable starters to the lightest walnut pastry dessert is delicious. We had the six course lunch which included fish dishes to Kyoto beef. The Barracuda was prepared delicious...ly.

“Divine”
We invited another couple for dinner. Our dining experience was simply devine! All courses were pieces of art en delicious. We started with different Kyoto vegetables, followed by a broth with pike conger. Next was perfect sashimi of pike conger, mackerel and tuna, followed by sushi (the Rice was se...asoned to perfection). After that we enjoyed a piece of grilled baraccuda with figs and white miso, Rice, pickled vegetables and miso soup. The night ended with 2 choices of dessert per person (all were delicious). Unfortunately, at the time of finishing diner there was a heavy rain. Chef Yoshida offered us 2 umbrellas and gifted them to us. We had a wonderfuI evening with delicious food (truly artwork) and impeccable service!
