“Amazing Soba Noodles”

Can’t say that I have ever had soba as good as this. We ordered both hot and cold soba noodles and both were nicely firm and chewy. The flavors were very unique - particularly liked the citrus zest - and refreshing. Would highly recommend checking it out.

“soba break”

We arrived on a hot summer afternoon and the cold soba was definitely as on-point as could be.The place offers a selection of soba sets (english menu available), most of it vegetarian and a small-bites menu (japanese-menu only, we randomly picked one and it was the nicest surprise). Each soba set is... of generous size around 1500 yen and bites are one-person kinda serving. Everything tasted amazing. The ambience is serene but not uptight at all, the interior is the perfect balance of traditional vs modern, western vs japanese. Highly recommended to anyone who likes noodles.

“Sobalicious...”

As a soba specialist restaurant, this is the place to go. No need to for reservations. Depending on the season they have soba in different preparations. We also had the small plates of side dishes. It may seem as classic but if you look closely there are a lot of innovations. I like my sakuraebi... with beans, and some kind of soybean paste block. For the main dish, the soba, it was the freshness of the grain from which the soba was made that would keep on lingering... be it with the yamaimo or the duck soup base... The restaurant was strict for people who take pictures of the food and the restaurant. Sure the exterior is old Japanese, but the interior is more minimalist modern. Indeed a memorable sobalicious experience...

This restaurant is a block away from tanimachi-6-chome 5th exit.(We walked to here from osaka caslte, it took 10 mimutes) It is not big restaurant, only has 3 table for four people and 2 table for eight people. Work hour is 11:00~14:30, 17:30~20:30, and when we visited 18:00, there were three teams... except us. Staffs were frendly, and they served free buckwheat tea first. This restaurant has english menu, and if you ask for, staffs help you choosing menu. We orderd duck soba(I heard that this menu is winter season only-as far as I know...). Buckwheat noodle was served in hot duck soup with roasted spring onion. When first time I got my bowl, soup seems oily. But I was wrong. Soup was soooooo delicious, and flavor of noodle and spring onion was fantastic. I paid 1550¥ for a bowl, but it really worth it. This restaurant is a little bit far from central osaka, but I strongly recommend here if you like soba or decided to eat near osaka castle. 한줄요약: 맛있습니다 국물이 진짜 끝내줘요!!!!!

“Soba in two ways”

Visited December 2013 for lunch The restaurant is quite easy to reach - we used the subway. It is less than a 5 minute walk from the Tanimachi Rokuchome subway station - literally one block down from the station exit. There are not a lot of restaurants in the area so it is not difficult to identify.... While it is not in an active commercial area, it is quite an easy stop to reach via transfer (from Midosuji line to Tanimachi). We did not make or need a reservation. On a weekday for lunch, the restaurant was around half full (quite a small place). There is one large shared table seating area and a few private tables. No shoes allowed inside. One toilet is shared by all customers. Decor is rustic, zen Japanese. The rear window of the restaurant looks into a Japanese style garden, a quiet and pleasant backdrop to watch while you eat. This is a soba specialist restaurant, and the menu doesn't pretend to do any more. The menu pretty much exclusively only offers soba, and in only a few variations. There are two major sections differentiated by the two types of soba they offer; one is prepared with a more typical buckwheat which is relatively dark in colour, and and one is prepared with a whiter flour which uses a different wheat and seems to go through more refinement. Each type of soba can be prepared in 4 or 5 ways ranging from hot to cold, plain, in soups, and with sides (such as radish, pickles, etc.). The noodles are all cut to a standard consistency--ultra thin based on my experiences with Soba previously. There is also small menu for sides and a drinks selection. We ordered a hot and cold preparation for each type of Soba. For the standard, we got one with a hot duck soup, and one with katsuobushi flakes accompaniment. For the whiter flour, we had a portion with sides of local radish, and one with a dashi soup accompaniment. Honestly, I preferred the darker soba - more flavourful, chewier texture to me. The alternative was interesting and also good though--you might prefer if you like a lighter tasting and more aromatic noodle. They also serve the traditional jug of hot soba boiling water so you can make a soup after finishing the soba. They serve buckwheat tea after the meal. For sides we ordered deep fried shrimp, tofu, and a fermented tofu dish. I found sides to be somewhat skippable--very delicate, but not especially tasty, and relatively expensive for very tiny portions (sauce dish size). I noticed many of the local regulars seemed to order the simplest basic portion (plain) just get 3-5 portions a head in both types of soba. Each basic serving (no sauce, no condiments, no sides, cold) runs 800 yen. The fancier preparations we had were 1000-1500 yen. Frankly, soba quantity per portion is quite small, so multiple orders make a lot of sense if you're hungry--we also had two portions a person and almost finished. Food quality is excellent: delicious soba, delicate stock/soup/condiments...a very classy soba experience--but obviously this place has a very limited and specialized offering. If you really just want good quality soba and like your noodles cut thin, this is the place for you. This is a one (well, technically two) trick pony that makes hand-crafted soba with character and flavour good enough to stand on its own--not something you can get at a typical restaurant. However, if you're expecting a lot of sides and variety, this might not suit your needs. Please note that the shop does not permit photography.
