“Fantastic Dinner, very friendly atmosphere”
I really enjoyed my Kaiseki dinner at Gokomachi Tagawa. Although the chef does not speak English, he manages to create a very friendly atmosphere and makes you really feel welcome in his small restaurant - this is something you cannot be sure to happen in Kyoto as I had to find out. I also want to m...ention that the waiter spoke English and that he was more than ready to explain all the delicious courses, dashis (soups) and so on. Dinner started with a light but very strong tasting green tea. First cours was tofu on turnip mush with lightly roasted seaweed. Afterwards I had rwa marinated kingfish followed by a scallop which had been grilled on a glowing log with shiso flowers and fresh wasabi - excellent! Even better: the crab and rice stew which followed. I will never forget the sweetness of the crab meat! Then came a selection of fish: Sea urchin, Paddock, soft roe, sea cucumber with yuzu, shrimp tempura - just to mention a few. I will leave out the other courses but be assured, this is a chef who knows how to barbecue a steak (served with grilled cabbage in a light vinegar sauce)! A well deserved Michelin star. It was a pleasure to have dinner here and get to talk to the other guests in a very friendly and warm atmosphere.
