We discovered this restaurant while headed to the Imperial Palace Grounds for a stroll. We received a friendly greeting, were seated at the counter, and given English menus. The seating was optimal because it was a treat to watch the chef at work. He also allowed us to take pictures while he was coo...king. More important than the stellar customer service was the food. It was delicious. I ordered Steak Zenn which was cooked to perfection. The chef and his staff made this lunch into an occasion we will long remember. Upon leaving, we took pictures of the outside so we could remember the restaurant. The chef saw us and came outside to pose with us. Because of the staff's focus on providing high quality customer service and the wonderful food, we wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.

We have reserved a table for 2 online which was very convenient for us (not speaking Japanese). The staff is extremely welcoming and nice and we communicated successfully with google translate. The menu was available also in English. We chose the chef menu with 7 courses, which was excellent and pre...pared in real time in front of our eyes :) (we were sitting at the counter). The overall atmosphere of the place is familiar and very pleasant. This was one of the best dinners we had in Kyoto! Fully recommended.

Stopped in without a reservation and was lucky to score a seat for a solo dinner. The other seats were all filled by 6:00 p.m. I had a set dinner with 6 courses, each one delicious. I had sashimi and grilled fish courses, but they also offer Wagyu beef as options in larger course dinners. A cozy... environment and an enjoyable dinner.

We were here for an intimate Christmas celebration as a small group of tourists. We were seated at the counter and it was a treat watching the chef cook. One of us speak a bit of Japanese and the chef explained each dish to us. The restauranteur was also there and he was just as friendly. Both of th...em are great hosts! We're particularly impressed by the deep fried taro wedge served in beef broth. Taro is a rather ordinary ingredient in Asian cooking but in the hands of the chef it has turned into such a flavourful delicacy. We exclaimed how good it is and the chef served us extra taro wedges in a Kyoto shokunin manner - like a true artisan proud of his craft. Perks of sitting at the counter! One of us had specific dietary restrictions. We informed the restaurant at booking and they made special arrangements for that guest. Amazing Kaiseki cuisine. Excellent service. 5 stars, no, 6!
