Mentsurubi

I’d heard that kishimen, the broad, flat noodle associated with Nagoya, was something I had to try while in the city, so I stopped by this spot. I ordered a piece of squid tempura and the hot wide‑kishimen. The place appears to be run by a couple who were friendly and pleasant. They don’t speak Engl...ish, but there is an English menu available. It’s a very small shop with only counter seating — busy, crowded, and definitely better suited for solo diners or small groups. My meal was freshly prepared and quite light. I generally prefer spicier food, so while it was nice, it leaned a little bland for my taste. Still, I wanted to try kishimen, and this was a good introduction to this Nagoya specialty. Very cheap, cash only, and worth visiting if you want to sample kishimen while in Nagoya.

I admit hand made wheat noodles have long been one of my favorite foods, so I was expecting to love the Nagoya local version and was not at all disappointed.
