“A Staple Eel Rice Joint”

Reviewed 24/May/2020

We kept come back for the eel rice bowl, a second time in our second visit to Nagoya. Eel is juicy tasty and fresh, with the rice at the bottom absorbed the fish sauce making it a delicious comfort food. There are a lot of eel dishes to choose from and we always enjoy the simple round eel rice ...bowl. We went purposely at the odd hour, say 11am to avoid the long queue. Price isn't cheap and it worth every cent in my own opinion.

The shop is located at the basement food area of Mtsuzakaya. The price of Eel rice is not cheap. The taste is not so heavy.

“Favorite meal”

One of my most favorite meals during my time in Japan. Go early, it's worth the wait. Get the main unagi bowl, you get to split it 4 ways to try different flavors. Try the eel bones. All Extremely delicious, I'll be back!

“Super good Unagi!”

Loved the Unagi! Came here with a local friend who told me to order the ひつまぶし as it was a Nagoya special. You split the rice 4 ways and eat the 3 different ways with the last fourth however you like it. The line was pretty long on a Saturday night at ~75 minutes (the estimate given was pretty acc...urate) but totally worth it. One of the 2 must try chains in Nagoya (the other one being yabaton for pork chop)!

“A very nice Eel Rice Meal”

We dined in this restaurant for our first meal in Japan in February 2016. The food served there was amazing, the eels were fresh and delivered from the market, which was made very yummy by the experienced chefs. The service was attentive and proactive, but could be better by bowing at us after we le...ave the restaurant, which is often seen in Japanese restaurants we have dined or hotels we have lived. The ambience was nice-looking, we dined in the tatami-styled restaurants. When we arrived there was a lot of other travellers. But as we dined on, the people lessened as we dined late at 8:40pm. The price of the food was reasonable and mid-ranged and the food was yummy. It was worth the visit generally.
