“wholesome Japanese cooking”
Nagano-ken Choju-shokudo was a delightful surprise and exactly the sort of place I enjoy finding while travelling in Japan. The menu focuses on simple, wholesome Japanese cooking, but everything was prepared with care and presented beautifully. The sizzling chicken dish arrived at the table still s...teaming, packed with flavour and accompanied by fresh vegetables, rice, miso soup, and a variety of small side dishes that made the meal feel complete. The karaage was particularly enjoyable – crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and served with traditional accompaniments. The ice-cold Suntory Premium Malt beer was the perfect match. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, with a warm wooden interior that felt welcoming without trying too hard. Service was polite and efficient, and although English was limited, the staff were friendly and did their best to help. This is not fine dining, nor does it pretend to be. Instead, it offers honest, well-prepared Japanese comfort food at good value in a pleasant setting. If you are visiting Nagano and want an authentic local meal away from the tourist crowds, this restaurant is well worth a visit. ★★★★☆ 4/5 – Fresh, satisfying food, generous set meals, excellent beer, and a genuine local dining experience. 🍺🇯🇵🍚

“Great food, friendly staff”
We came here not long before it was due to close, but we were still welcomed inside. We chose to order the salmon set and the chicken set, with natto on the side. We were very impressed with the portion sizes and thought that every was delicious... except the natto... of course they are not for ever...yone. The prices were reasonable too. When we're next in Nagano, we'll eat here again, I think.

“Very good food with a veggie bar.”
Located inside Nagano station. It's a concept restaurant built around the idea of the longevity of Nagano people. The menu is eclectic, but focuses on traditional Nagano fare....beef, fish, and fresh vegetables. An all-you-can-eat veggie buffet is available as a side order. You get a wooden cup and ...stuff it with freshly sliced vegetables to your heart's content. All in all delicious and good value.
