I lived in Japan for 20 years and this was my favorite bar. Walking distance from Shibuya station. 3 storey classic rock dive bar which appears unchanged since 1969, its the kind of place that always makes you feel drunker than you are. For music expect Led Zeppelin, Stones, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan...an...d much, much more...you might get Nirvana...but no Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift. Cheap with snack food and occasional live music. Like any great bar, it gets a real mix of people: older salarymen needing a quiet drink alone, college girls having a chat, arty hipster dudes. Met a friendly guy in his 60s there with his wife who showed me bar photos from the 70s/80s....

Stumbled upon this place whilst looking for another bar, and so glad we did! Great dive bar feel with writing on the walls, dim lighting and reasonable drinks prices. 60’s/70’s rock soundtrack. Friendly service and full of locals, but English menus available. No table charge. Does allow smoking..., but didn’t seem overly smoky, compared to some places.

We just went for drinks with friends, but the atmosphere here is really relaxed. Great selection of food and drinks in the menus. Good efficient service, especially given there was about 30 of us arriving at different times. Good prices and if needed English language menues.

I first visited some 30 years ago, and the vibe remains exactly the same - the albums playing, the inexpensive food and booze flowing, the tables and booths that prove perfect to chill on a Sunday evening or any night; the music is a classic rock panoply, but requests are taken if desired. In the ba...sement is a live area for band practice. Located on Dogenzaka Hill, it’s surrounded by love hotels and sex shops, but no matter, BYG is a beacon of quality and timelessness in a changing Shibuya. Takes credit cards.

So nice to be in a place with personality! reasonably priced drinks and food. They take requests, and play them, as long as they are 60-70s rock.
