The food was excellent as always. There has been a noticeable drop in the level of service since my last visit a few years back. We had a decent sized private room, while the staff was friendly there was not the level of care and attention one would expect at this price point. Wallpaper was staine...d, woodwork and tatami worn and the air vent was hanging off! Hopefully business picks up again and they can afford to do some repairs.

Ume No Hanna is a sweet converted old house on the outskirts of Kanazawa about 30 minutes from the city centre by taxi. The gardens are beautiful and the restaurant is based on individual tatami dining rooms many with garden views. We had a large dining room, just for two of us, with views out to th...e gardens (see pics). The food is in the form of a tasting menu - we had a 14 course dinner which sounds a lot but the dishes are mostly small and ours was based around crab, tofu etc. There are meat dishes available within the 6 or 7 menu options which are incredibly inexpensive considering the high quality of food presented to us by our individual waitress. (see menu pic) Our waitress/server spoke no English and our Japanese is pure tourist but we still managed and this was no drawback. If you are in Kanazawa get a taxi and go but it has to be pre-booked there is not an option to turn up un booked. One of the best meals we had in Japan

A wonderful Japanese meal in a private dining room, overlooking a private Japanese garden. The food was a continuous feast of exquisite (and some quite strange), mostly vegetarian dishes. Each was beautifully presented and explained so that we knew what it was and how to eat it. The private dinin...g room was exquisite, very peaceful and everything was paced well. The member of staff who served our food spoke very little English but most of the time we were able to understand each other. The restaurant is a 30min taxi ride from the centre of Kanazawa but it is well worth it.

We had booked a private room for 4 people, to do so required spending more than ¥4300 per person but it is well worth it! Ume No Hana specialises in tofu and they really know what they are doing! Everything from the staff; decor; presentation & food itself was superb! Dish after dish was delightful... & we struggled to finish it all. Vegans can be catered for if you notify the restaurant well in advance. Booking is essential. Highly recommended for an ultimate Japanese dining experience. It was raining when we left so the staff escorted us to our car with umbrellas!

This must be one of the most Japanese dining expriences in Kanazawa. The ciusine is primarily of the local Kaga region. Here the key is quality rather than quantity. Outstanding service as one expects from more expensive dining experiences in Japan. Have visited on numerous occasions and can conf...idently confirm that the standards are always very high. I love this place and can highly recommend it. It is not so cheap but great things are never so. Reservations necessary.
