“One of the best places to try traditional Japanese food ”
In Kanazawa, you have to try jibuni, the local duck stew. You can order the jibuni set in this restaurant. It comes with miso soup, chawan mushi, sashimi, jibuni and other stuff. It is a little bit expensive but it is worth the experience and food.

“Great find!”
Google maps showed me the restaurants close to my hotel. By good luck I picked this one. As a single women i was warmly welcomed (in English!) There are several levels, I was on the ground floor where there are two large group rooms with tatami mats (you need to sit on the floor) and the counter wh...ere it looks as if you sit on the floor, but there's room for your legs. There is an English menu and the staff do speak some English. I had the sashimi -excellent- and the tempura -very good, prepared right in front of my eyes. The sake was very good. It's not the cheapest meal, but for the quality of the ingredients (and the quantity) it's worth the price.

“Excellent tempura”
Really good tempura restaurant with very welcoming staff and great value. They offer Japanese and Western seating. Tempura was excellent, along with delicate sea bass and noodles, washed down with a nice bottle of sake. For dessert we had a deep fried tofu ice cream - delicious.

“Very good meal”
Not sure how I found out about this place, obviously read a review, and because it was only a couple of blocks from our hotel we thought we'd give it a try. We were not disappointed as everything was extremely good and the service was friendly throughout. Although not a lot of English spoken, we man...aged to communicate and our set meal was really good. The tempura and sashimi were especially tasty. We were given a choice to sit at the bar/counter or a table, and chose to sit at the bar as I always enjoy watching the chefs do their stuff. Not a cheap meal, but I think it was value for money. One little hint to non-Japanese speakers, get a copy of the address in Japanese, as this like many restaurants has a tiny sign in English which we did not see even though we were sure we were at the right place - many places we found had no English name sign at all.

“Nice local eatery convenient to Kanazawa train station”
We were staying at the Nikko next to Kanazawa station. The restaurant we had planned on going to was full so we ate here on the hotel concierge's recommendation. We were not disappointed. The crowd was mixed local and tourist. Service was friendly and an english menu was available. It feels like a f...amily run restaurant. The kitchen was able to accommodate one of us with a fish allergy. The food was very well presented and delicious. The tempura was delicate and savory. I had the sashimi which was a nice variety of very fresh fish served beautifully. The beef dish was quite good as well as were the variety of sides we ordered. The local sake choices were good and modestly priced. We left very happy without spending a ton of money. About a 5 minute walk from the station and surrounding hotels.
