“Uninformed staff and expensive”
On our first night in Kanazawa, my family and I went to this pub restaurant (izakaya) for dinner. It is located near Kanazawa station, in an area with many similar restaurants nearby. This being our first visit to Kanazawa, we were very eager to try out local food and sake. We ordered a plate of s...everal varieties of sashimi well known in the region (such as the blackthroat seaperch, or nodoguro), as well as some drinks. The sashimi was ok, but nothing special. We were a bit disappointed that the staff could not explain to us the name of each sashimi, and could not point out which was the nodoguro. I tried the sake tasting set, which had sake from five different manufactures. While it allowed me to get aquatinted with the names of the local brewers, I wasn’t impressed that much with the sake itself. The bill came out to be very expensive, nearly twice that of izakayas that we visited in Tokyo, which served better food and sake. I didn't see an English menu, and so it might be challenging for a non-Japanese speaker to order. Overall not impressed.

“An outstanding find”
Great setting with the segregated 4 person dining areas. Also an option for traditional seating or bar. Very responsive service. Food is high quality and fresh. English version of the menu doesn't reflect the sublties of the presentation. For example pork spring rolls are pork and capsicum wrapped i...n lettuce encased in single sheet of rice paper with a simple sauce.

“Really tasty food”
Daian Kani was not our first choice but even at 7 pm on a Monday many places were full and, not too long after we arrived, Daian also was. We had pork skewers, steamed rice and crab, Korean style shrimp pancake and beef sirloin. With a carafe of sake and a ginger beer the cost was around £28/¥4800.... Every dish was enjoyed between two.

“Atmospheric Izakaya”
Food and Nihonshu are superb. Highlights were crab croquettes, marvellous sashimi and a Japanese take on Vietnamese spring rolls, with miso substituting sweet chilli sace and filled with yummy, fried, salty duck breast. These Kanazawans eat very well.
