CHAMPION

We enjoyed the our sushi and various yakitori at Robata Ichiba Champion. They had yakitori made with awa odori chicken, a special breed raised in Tokushima which was very tasty. Apart from the good food, I specially enjoyed talking with the chef who bantered with us as he prepared our meal. Such ...a good natured and friendly man, who did not mind my lack of Japanese to fully engage with us at the counter.

This place is fantastic. The freshest sashimi, meat grilled to order in front of you, the beers icy cold, the staff extremely helpful - and an English menu. Sake is also reasonably priced. Would go back again tonight for the variety except they are closed for a function.

We followed two respectable looking women in, were seated at the counter with other couples and singles (booths available for larger groups) and were offered an English menu. Lots of small plate options, cooked to order. We had grilled fish, yellow fin and leek skewers, grilled peppers, local potato... chips, and ended with local potato ice cream and pudding. Every dish was good. You push a button to call a wait person to add another dish or drink. Lots of talk, but not noisy, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Only a few blocks from the train station and many hotels. We were so glad our hotel restaurant was full and that we got to eat here instead.
